The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team scored multiple goals in a game for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon at Charger Field, but a disastrous eight minute stretch midway through the second half cost the Chargers, as they lost to Houghton, 4-2. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-5 this season, while Houghton improved to 2-2 in 2017.
How it Happened: Houghton got on the board first on Saturday as Meaghan Berry scored at the 15:18 mark to give the Highlanders a 1-0 advantage. Following the goal, Lancaster Bible began to play with more possession and collected three straight shots towards the goal. The third shot, taken by senior
Raegan Horst, found the back of the net at the 28:39 mark, as she took a pass from sophomore
Joy Trumbull and scored her first goal of the season.
The teams combined for only one shot towards the goal in the final 16 minutes of the first half and went into halftime knotted at 1-1.
After Houghton collected the first three shots early in the second half, the Chargers had a golden chance to take the lead at 57:37, but sophomore
Maggie Arnold's shot rang off the crossbar and the game remained tied.
Houghton turned the tide following the hit crossbar and scored just over five minutes later to take a 2-1 lead on a goal by Nikki Garns. Just under a minute later, Berry netted her second goal of the game at 64:15 to give the Highlanders some insurance and Garns' second goal of the game just over six minutes later extended Houghton's lead to three at 4-1.
Horst scored her second goal of the game with under seven minutes remaining, as she collected the ball from 35 yards out, dribbled to her right and fired a shot to the far left side of the goal to bring the Chargers back to within two. The miracle comeback was not to be however and the Chargers lost for the fifth straight time.
