Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Roadrunners Run Past Lancaster Bible

After opening the 2017 season on Friday with a methodical 5-1 victory over Pitt-Bradford, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team had nearly the same thing done to them on Saturday at Charger Field. The Chargers tried nearly everything they could, but could not solve the Ramapo defense and lost to the Roadrunners, 3-0. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-1 this season, while Ramapo improved to 1-1.

How it Happened: The Roadrunners jumped on the board quickly as Ariton Mimini scored off a beautiful passing play just 5:41 into the game. After Trevor Albrecht touch passed the ball to Edward Franzoni, Franzoni found Mimini in the middle of the box, and Mimini drove the ball past Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Thiago Naque. Ramapo continued to play well in the midfield and was rewarded again 16 minutes after the opening goal, as Albrecht collected a failed clearing attempt and drilled the ball into the lower left-hand corner of the net to double the Roadrunners' lead.

Lancaster Bible began to generate a few more chances in the second half, but still had trouble advancing the ball through the midfield, where Ramapo did an excellent job of taking any speed away from the Chargers. The Roadrunners put the game away for good at 73:01 as Peter Livanis collected a rebound off Albrecht's shot and headed the loose ball into the net.

By the Numbers: Ramapo outshot the Chargers, 14-6, including 6-4 in shots on goal...Albrecht finished with a goal and two assists...Each team had just one corner kick on a rainy day at Charger Field...Naque made three saves in the loss...Six different Lancaster Bible players recorded a shot.

The Coach Says: "We competed hard, but were not organized enough at times to deal with a good team who can keep possession going forward," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We made a defensive mistake on the opening goal and were chasing the game from there. The positive is that this gave us great practice early in the season defending against a quality team. We'll respond to this and get better."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-2-1 all-time against Ramapo...The Chargers have not won back-to-back games to start the season since 2008, when Lancaster Bible rattled off four straight wins to begin the year.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible is back on the field on Wednesday when the Chargers travel to Middletown, Pa. to face Penn St. Harrisburg...Game time is set for 4 p.m.
