The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team welcomed Messiah to the NCAA Division III ranks on Saturday night, as the Falcons played their first-ever men's volleyball varsity match in front of a huge, raucous crowd in Grantham, Pa. The Chargers will have to do a better job hosting a newcomer to the party next time, as Lancaster Bible went into Messiah and defeated the Falcons, 3-1. The victory, the sixth in a row for Lancaster Bible, improves the Chargers to 6-1 this season, while Messiah fell to 0-1, as the Chargers won, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-14.
1st Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible took advantage of some early Messiah nerves and jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set
-The Chargers held their lead for much of the set, and took a 21-17 advantage after a kill from junior Nate Miller
-Messiah quickly turned the set however, and rattled off eight of the final nine points of the set, and won 25-22
2nd Set Highlights:
-Messiah used the momentum from the first set to take an 11-7 lead midway through the second set, but Lancaster Bible chipped away at its deficit and took a 15-14 lead after an ace from senior

-The Falcons re-took the lead, 18-16, but again, Lancaster Bible played tough and won four of the next five points for a 20-19 advantage
-With the Chargers leading, 23-22, Lancaster Bible junior, and former Messiah student-athlete, Nate Miller hammered home back-to-back kills to give the Chargers a 25-22 set two victory
3rd Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set and led 10-4 after a kill from senior Kasey Gentry
-The teams traded points for much of the third set, and Lancaster Bible appeared to be on its way to a 2-1 lead, but Messiah won seven of eight points and cut the Chargers' lead to two, 21-19
-After a service error by Messiah gave the Chargers a three-point lead, and Miller crushed two more kills, before the Chargers earned the 25-20 win on a service error from the Falcons
4th Set Highlights:
-The Chargers opened up another early lead in the fourth set, and led 12-5 after three straight kills from Miller and Kreider
-Lancaster Bible opened up a larger lead later in the set, winning six of seven points for a 20-9 advantage
-The teams traded points for the rest of the set, and Miller, fittingly, crushed his final kill of the night to give the Chargers a 25-14 victory
By The Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 53 kills, 24 errors on 116 attempts for a .250 hitting percentage...Messiah had 41 kills, 22 errors on 113 attempts for a .168 hitting percentage...Lancaster Bible held a 41-34 edge in digs, while each team had three aces...Miller finished with 29 kills to go with nine digs...Kreider had eight kills and no errors on 17 attempts, and also added two blocks...Gentry chipped in with seven kills and nine digs, while sophomore Kaleb Ansell had 38 assists, 10 digs, four kills and two blocks...Matt Knab had 12 kills to lead Messiah.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster bible is now 1-0 all-time against Messiah...Saturday marked the third time the Chargers have had 50 or more kills in a match this season...The three aces were tied for a season-low, but Lancaster Bible's seven solo blocks were a season-high.
Up Next: Lancaster Bible is back on the court next Saturday, when the Chargers take on two ranked opponents, seventh-ranked Kean and 11th-ranked Marymount...Both matches will take place at Marymount in Arlington, Va.
