The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest at Donald H. Funk Field on Wednesday night, falling to Penn College, 2-0. The Chargers are now 4-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in NEAC play, while the Wildcats improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
Game Recap: Both teams came out firing, as the Chargers had two shots in the first eight minutes, while the Wildcats had four shots in the opening 16 minutes. Each goalkeeper was up the early task, as Lancaster Bible's
Erin Mikula made three early saves, while Taylor Gonzales stopped a shot by
Jackie Moore at 7:50.
The Chargers managed two shots and two corner kicks midway through the half, and both teams had a chance late in the half, but neither could convert, and the game went to halftime scoreless.
The teams again traded scoring chances early in the second half, as
Bryanna Hoover and
Julianne Miller had shots for Lancaster Bible, before Dominique Brown and Kaelan Cronan had chances for the Wildcats.
As the second half progressed, both teams searched for the goal that would more than likely produce the winner, and the Wildcats found it at 78:53, when Brown scored off a pass from Cronan. Just 2:07 later, Cronan scored her 11
th goal of the year off a feed from Megan Bugbee, and doubled the Penn College lead to 2-0.
The Chargers had two shots on goal in the final five minutes, but Gonzales made the save on both chances, and sent the Chargers to the loss.
By the Numbers: Both teams recorded 11 shots, though the Wildcats held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal…Lancaster Bible had three corner kick chances, while the Wildcats had just one…Mikula made five saves for the Chargers, while Gonzales posted four saves for the shutout.
The Coach Says: "I thought we did a lot of good things tonight, but just had two hiccups in defensive coverage that hurt us," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Ally Brown said. "We worked really hard for 90 minutes tonight, and I think there are lots of positives for us to take from tonight, we just need to clean a few things up."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-1-2 all-time against Penn College…The Chargers are 2-4 at home this season…Lancaster Bible is outscoring its opponents 23-18 this season, including, 16-11 in the second half.
