The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team won its fourth straight game, and sixth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Sunday, as the Chargers defeated Morrisville State, 2-1 in Morrisville, N.Y.
Normally a house of horrors for the Chargers, Lancaster Bible earned its first-ever win in Morrisville, N.Y., as the Chargers are now 1-5-1 all-time at the Mustangs' home. Sunday's victory improves the Chargers to 9-6-1 overall and 8-2 in NEAC play, while the Mustangs fell to 7-7-1 overall and 6-3 in NEAC action.
Game Recap: Both teams had early chances, as both the Chargers and Mustangs recorded shots and corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes. After Morrisville State had several of the offensive chances midway through the half, the Chargers recorded three straight shots, two of which came off the head of
Chad Tolson.
Morrisville State had the first half's final shot, but it went wide, and the teams went to halftime knotted at 0-0.
Lancaster Bible broke the aforementioned tie just 1:08 into the second half, as Tolson scored off a pass from
Jared Jordan for his fifth goal of the season. The Chargers continued to hunt around the Mustangs' goal, as they took the next three shots as well, with Morrisville State goalkeeper Cody Welkley making two saves to keep the deficit at one for the Mustangs.
Four yellow cards (two for each team) in four minutes midway through the half interrupted an otherwise offensive-minded game, and after the Chargers withstood a late charge from the Mustangs, Tolson scored again, this time at 89:23, as he took a pass from
Estiven Saldarriaga and netted his sixth goal of the year.
Morrisville State made the final 30 seconds of the game interesting, as Toyi Hakizimana scored with 21 seconds to play, but Lancaster Bible ran out the clock and avenged some past demons in upstate New York.
