Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Gehman Leads Chargers on Senior Night

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team honored its three seniors on Wednesday night at the Donald H. Funk Field, and senior Anthony Gehman wasn't going to waste a night he has earned after four years, as he scored a goal and added two assists, helping the Chargers to a 3-2 victory over Gallaudet.

Gehman entered the game with one career goal, and he matched the total and added two assists, as the Chargers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before holding on for the one-goal victory. Lancaster Bible is now 10-6-1 overall and capped North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 9-2 mark, clinching the second seed for the upcoming conference playoffs. Wednesday's loss dropped the Bison to 6-10 this season, and they finished their NEAC schedule with a 4-7 record.

Game Recap: Lancaster Bible controlled the game from the opening whistle, as the Chargers had four shots and three corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes of the game. The Chargers worked the ball down the field again just after the 22 minute mark, and Kedric Yoder was fouled in the box trying to chase down a ball, and earned a penalty kick for Lancaster Bible.

Gehman stepped up, and drilled a shot into the top right of the goal to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The Chargers continued to apply pressure with two shots and a corner kick over the next five minutes, and then made it 2-0 at 29:32, as Estiven Saldarriaga took a pass from Gehman and scored into the lower left-hand corner for his third goal of the season.

Lancaster Bible scored less than five minutes later when Gehman played the ball back to Joel Hughes, who spun and placed the ball perfectly into the left part of the net from 22 yards out to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.

Gallaudet got a goal back just prior to halftime, as Chad Johnson netted his 14th goal of the season at 41:00 to cut the Bison deficit to two.

The Chargers looked lethargic out of the halftime break, and though they tried to work out of it, the Bison made them pay at 69:29, as Elan Markel collected the ball 30 yards from the goal and blasted a shot over the head of Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Jake Deterline.

Lancaster Bible settled down following the goal, and limited the Bison to just one more shot over the final 20 minutes, and held on for the one-goal victory.
