Chargers End Season with 1-0 Loss

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team capped its 2018 season with a 1-0 loss to Sweet Briar on Saturday at Donald H. Funk Field. The Chargers, back after a 33-year absence, ended their year with an 0-13 record, while Sweet Briar ended its year with a record of 4-8.

Game Recap: For the second straight day, Lancaster Bible and Sweet Briar battled for 70 minutes, but unlike Friday afternoon, the Charges asserted themselves offensively, and had two shots and a penalty corner in the opening three minutes. Nicole DeKok's first shot went wide, while the second was saved by Sweet Briar goalie Rosemary Austin.

The Vixens got on the board at 15:26, as Roxana Cubias scored her first goal of the year to give Sweet Briar a 1-0 advantage. Lancaster Bible had a late penalty corner and a shot off the corner by Brooke Sareyka, but the shot went wide, and the Chargers trailed by one at halftime.

Lancaster Bible came out strong again for the second straight half, and fired three shots in the opening seven minutes, but again couldn't find the back of the net.

The Chargers pressed for the equalizer in the final 10 minutes, but Austin, as well as her teammates, made save-after-save, and wouldn't allow Lancaster Bible to tie the game.
