Colonels Climb Past Chargers in OT

The Lancaster Bible College suffered its second overtime loss in three games on Wednesday night, as the Chargers fell to Wilkes, 1-0 in overtime at Donald H. Funk Field. The loss drops the Chargers to 4-5-1 this season, while the Colonels improved to 6-3-1.

Game Recap: A game that was played predominantly in the midfield, with limited offensive chances began that way as well, as the Chargers and Colonels split possession in the opening 20 minutes. Wilkes had the early chances, while the Chargers countered in the next 10 minutes with four shots and two corner kicks.

Wilkes would have more of the chances over the final 30 minutes of the first half, including Kyle Bentz's try that skimmed off the post at 15:46. The Colonels had two final shots in the final five minutes of the half, but both went wide and the teams went to halftime scoreless.

The second half brought much of the same, as both teams tried to convert possession into offensive chances, but neither could come up with much. Lancaster Bible managed a late corner kick after a long shot Dylan Shertzer somehow got through traffic and forced Wilkes' goalkeeper Tim Gallagher to make a diving save, but the Chargers came up empty.

Gabriel Nieves had two late good looks at the goal for the Colonels, but both shots went wide and the teams headed to overtime.

It was Lancaster Bible who had the early chances in the first overtime, as Tim Nyce had a shot blocked that resulted in a corner, but the Chargers could not convert, and Wilkes began to pin Lancaster Bible deep in its own end.

The Colonels eventually earned a corner kick, and Camry Huff's cross found Bentz who headed the ball into the right-side of the net for the game-winner.
