The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team clamped down on defense on Saturday, and in process earned a huge North Eastern Athletic Conference victory, as the Chargers defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0 in Cobleskill, N.Y. The victory sends the Chargers to 5-5-1 overall and 4-2 in NEAC play, while the Fighting Tigers dropped to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
Game Recap: Lancaster Bible wasted little time getting onto the scoreboard on Saturday, as
Estiven Saldarriaga converted a penalty kick at 10:28 for his first collegiate goal. With the early lead, Lancaster Bible's midfielders and defense played terrifically throughout the first half as the Fighting Tigers looked for the equalizer.
Not only did the Chargers defend well, but the visitors extended their lead at 42:49 when junior
Dan Bewersdorff found freshman
Trey Baughman with a ball through the middle, and Baughman raced down the field behind the defenders, collected the ball and scored into the bottom half of the net.
In the second half, the Chargers continued to defend well, and though SUNY Cobleskill tried everything it could to get on the scoreboard, the Lancaster Bible defense turned away all of the chances, and secured its third shutout of the season.
By the Numbers: SUNY Cobleskill outshot the Chargers, 12-11, though Lancaster Bible held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal...The Fighting Tigers had seven corner kicks, while the Chargers had four...Sophomore
Jake Deterline made three saves to earn the victory...Bewersdorff's assist was his second of the season.

Tom Ardt said. "Our counter attacks were dangerous all game and our back line and midfield battled all day against a ton of aerial balls they played in. We had a solid performance today from our freshmen, all the way through our seniors."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-1 all-time against SUNY Cobleskill...The Chargers are 3-2-1 on the road this season...The first half goals were the first for the Chargers since Sept. 15 when they scored twice in the first half in a 3-0 win over St. Elizabeth...It had been six games since the Chargers had scored in the first half.
