Chargers Bounce Bison

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team made history on Friday night, as the Chargers defeated Gallaudet for the first time in program history, as the Chargers won, 3-1 at Horst Athletic Center. In addition to the program history, the victory also keeps the Chargers unbeaten in North Eastern Athletic Conference play this season, as they improved to 12-5 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Lancaster Bible's 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 win sends the Bison to 10-10 overall and 4-1 in conference action.

Match Recap: Lancaster Bible opened the first set on an 11-5 run, as junior Ashtyn Bouslog had two kills during a five-point run that ended with a Bison timeout. Gallaudet closed the gap to 16-12 later in the set, but a kill from senior Hannah Gipe, and four straight Bison errors, helped the Chargers to a 21-12 lead, and they closed out the set, 25-18, on another kill from Bouslog.

Gallaudet took six of the first eight points of the second set, but Lancaster Bible won five of the next six, and tied the set at 7-7 after an ace from Erin Harkey. The Bison regained the lead, and led 16-12, before the Chargers mounted another run and tied the set at 16-16 with the four-point run capped by a block assist by Courtney Goyak and Allison Shuey. Lancaster Bible would take a 21-19 lead, but the Bison dug in, and after some good defense, and timely hitting, took the last six points of the set, and won 25-21.

The Chargers put the second set behind themselves quickly and took a 12-7 lead midway through the third set after a kill from Goyak, an ace from Harkey, and an error from the Bison. Gallaudet again fought back, and won seven of nine points to close its deficit to one, 15-14. A kill from sophomore Aleah Heyworth, and back-to-back errors from the Bison restored Lancaster Bible's four-point advantage, and the Chargers never looked back, finishing the set on another kill from Bouslog.

The teams exchanged points through the early parts of the fourth set, but Gallaudet earned some separation and took a 16-12 lead after two straight errors from the Chargers. Lancaster Bible never called timeout however, and won nine of 11 points, including five straight, and grabbed a 21-18 lead after three straight Gallaudet errors. The Bison narrowed the Chargers' lead to three, 23-20, but after a Gallaudet error, Heyworth put the match away, and gave the Chargers their first-ever win over the Bison.
