Power Hitters

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team won its third straight road match on Tuesday, as the Chargers defeated Eastern Mennonite, 3-0 in Harrisonburg, Va. The victory, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15, propels the Chargers to 14-6 overall this season, while the Royals fell to 5-15.
 
Match Recap: Eastern Mennonite led, 10-7 in the opening set, but the Chargers rattled off five straight points to take a 12-10 lead. After three straight errors by the Royals, Ashtyn Boslog fired an ace, while Hannah Gipe capped the run with a kill. After an Eastern Mennonite point, the Chargers won four more points, as Gipe had two more kills during that run. Lancaster Bible led by three, 17-14 later in the set, and closed out the opening set by winning eight of the final nine points, taking the set, 25-15.
 
Lancaster Bible jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the second set, as the Chargers smashed four straight kills to cap an 8-1 run. Allison Shuey and Bekah Roberts had two kills as part of a 5-1 run later in the set that gave the Chargers a 16-10 advantage, and after Eastern Mennonite mounted a late comeback, Gipe put the set away with a kill, and gave the Chargers the frame, 25-19.
 
The Chargers earned another early lead in the third set, as Aleah Heyworth and Bouslog had kills as part of a 4-0 run that gave Lancaster Bible a 10-4 lead. The teams exchanged points for the rest of the set, and a kill from Courtney Goyak, and an ace from Mandy Metzler ended the match, and gave the Chargers the win.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 40 kills, while Eastern Mennonite had 25…The Chargers had a .314 hitting percentage, their highest mark of the season…Lancaster Bible posted six aces and six blocks, and led in digs, 57-46…Bouslog finished with 11 kills, and no errors on 23 attempts, while also added three aces and five digs…Roberts and Gipe each had seven kills, while Roberts added four blocks…Goyak had five kills and two blocks, while Shuey finished with five kills, 27 assists, three blocks and six digs…Hannah Thompson finished with a team-best 15 digs, while Erin Harkey and Heyworth each had 11 digs.
 
The Coach Says: "I was very happy with the way we played tonight," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Micah Herron said. "I thought we limited the things Eastern Mennonite was able to do, and everyone contributed in a positive way."
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-3 all-time against Eastern Mennonite…The Chargers defeated the Royals, 3-1 last season in Lancaster…Lancaster Bible is 7-2 away from Horst Athletic Center this season…Tuesday marked the eighth time this season the Chargers have had 40 or more kills in a match, but just the second time they have accomplished the feat in a three-set match…The eight errors were a season low for the Chargers.
