The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team lost its fifth straight game on Wednesday night, falling to Gallaudet, 89-67 at Horst Athletic Center. The loss drops the Chargers to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Bison improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference action. Wednesday marked the first time in 15 tries that Gallaudet has defeated Lancaster Bible.

Game Recap: Lancaster Bible trailed by six early in the first quarter, but back-to-back buckets from
Courtney Goyak and
Caitlin Hickey cut the deficit to two at 10-8 with 5:52 to play in the opening quarter. The Bison re-built their lead, and then stretched it to 11 at 21-10 with 2:35 to play, but the Chargers ended the quarter on a 6-0 run, as Goyak's layup with eight seconds to play cut the Bison lead to 21-16 after 10 minutes.

A three-point play from
Christine Graves to open the second quarter brought the Chargers to within two, but Gallaudet answered with a bucket to regain a two possession lead. Another layup from Graves with 5:44 to play cut Gallaudet's lead to 29-28, and she brought Lancaster Bible to within one again at 32-31, but Gallaudet began to pull away again late in the quarter, and led 50-39 at the break.

Lancaster Bible got to within two, 54-52, after a 3-pointer from
Sonja Nelson with 6:35 to play in the third quarter, but the Chargers never got closer, as Gallaudet closed the quarter on a 20-2 run, and built a 74-54 lead after 30 minutes of play.

The Bison led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter, as two free throws by Kendall Hudson gave Gallaudet an 88-56 lead with 4:48 to play. The Chargers got late buckets from
Becca Lucente and
Mekenzie Smith, but the Bison finished off the game, and won by 22.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the floor, but just 4-of-19 from beyond the arc…Gallaudet shot 48 percent (36-of-75) and 5-of-15 from 3-point range…Hickey finished with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, while Goyak had 19 points and 19 rebounds…Graves added nine points and four boards, while
Mekenzie Smith had six points, four rebounds and three assists…
Hope Hodges finished with 2 points and five rebounds…Lancaster Bible committed 30 turnovers…Hannah Neild led five players in double figures for the Bison, as she had 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

The Coach Says: "It was certainly a frustrating game tonight," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We played very well offensively in the first half, but struggled defensively. We imploded in the second half, and turned the ball over way too many times. Our effort has to be better if we want to give ourselves a chance."
