The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team dropped its sixth straight game on Saturday, falling to neighbor York (Pa.), 76-45 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are now 2-7 overall, while the Spartans won their third straight and improved to 5-4.
The Chargers trailed by just nine at halftime, but only scored 18 points in the second half, as the Spartans used their crisp passing and solid defense to pull away from Lancaster Bible.

Game Recap: Lancaster Bible actually led for the first part of the opening quarter, as junior
Caitlin Hickey helped the Chargers jump out to an 8-5 lead. The Spartans began to turn up the pressure defensively, and turned it into offense, and eventually led 15-9 after 10 minutes of play.

After York opened up a double-digit lead midway through the second quarter, Hickey again brought the Chargers back into the game, as she ended the first half with a barrage of 3-pointers, and the Chargers trailed by just nine, 36-27 at the break.

The Chargers trailed just 40-32 after another 3-pointer from Hickey, but the Chargers went cold from the field thanks to the York defense, and trailed 56-35 six minutes later after two free throws from Katie McGowan. Lancaster Bible eventually trailed 59-35 after 30 minutes of play, and fell behind as many as 30 in the fourth quarter, despite some good shooting from
Becca Lucente.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot just 26.2 percent (17-of-65) from the floor, and 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from 3-point range…York finished at 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor, and shot 44.1 (15-of-34) from beyond the arc…Hickey finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting, including 6-of-10 from downtown…Lucente was the only other Lancaster Bible player in double figures with 11 points…Goyak added nine points and 12 rebounds to go with two steals…Katie McGowan had a team-high 16 points for York, while Kayla Ferris had 12 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We played pretty well even with them in three of the four quarters, but credit to York, they are a solid team who can shoot very well, which they did today."

On the team's current play: "Our team is learning how to improve and keeps fighting even when the results haven't been what we have wanted," Vanderhoff said. "We keep teaching our players, that just because you hit a rough patch, whether in life or basketball, it doesn't mean you give up. Hopefully as coaches, we can teach them to keep going and to be resilient."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-7 all-time against York…Saturday marked the first meeting between the two teams since the 1978-79 season…The six-game losing streak is the longest for the Chargers since the 2009-10 season…Lancaster Bible is now 2-3 at home this season…The 26.2 shooting percentage for the Chargers is the second-lowest output of the season, trailing just the 25 percent shooting in the loss to St. Elizabeth on Dec. 1…Hickey has 23 points in back-to-back games and leads the Chargers with 16.6 points per game...Goyak needs eight points to reach 1,000 points for her career, and seven rebounds to break the program record for rebounds in a career.
