Chargers Celebrate Senior Day with Victory

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team finished its regular season with a 69-43 victory over Bryn Athyn on Saturday at Horst Athletic Center, as the Chargers won for the fifth straight time and for the 11th time in 12 games. The Chargers are now 17-8 overall and 15-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Bryn Athyn finished its season with a record of 6-19 overall and 3-13 in NEAC action. 

Lancaster Bible has clinched the top seed in the NEAC South Division and will host Penn St. Abington on Tuesday in the NEAC Quarterfinals at 8 p.m. 

How it Happened: On Saturday, Lancaster Bible jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the Chargers opened up a 13-2 lead 4:35 into the contest. Senior Kirsten Webster capped the run with a three-point play, as she had five of the 13 points. Sophomore Kaylee Boger's second 3-pointer of the quarter with 3:10 to play gave the Chargers a 20-6 lead, and Lancaster Bible eventually led 25-8 after 10 minutes of play.

Lancaster Bible continued to pour it on in the second quarter, as freshman Leah Steiner's jumper with 4:41 to play in the half, gave the Chargers a 31-10 advantage. Lancaster Bible scored the final five points of the second quarter as well, with sophomore Caitlin Hickey's 3-pointer giving the home team a 42-17 halftime lead.

The Chargers began the third quarter on an 11-4 run, with Hickey giving Lancaster Bible a 53-21 lead with 6:27 left in the quarter. Another 5-0 run to end the quarter, capped by three straight points from junior Courtney Goyak, helped Lancaster Bible to a 63-28 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Lancaster Bible maintained its large lead in the fourth quarter, as sophomore RuthAnn Hostetler scored the final three points for the Chargers.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) from the floor, and 24-of-31 from the free throw line...Bryn Athyn shot 16-of-62 (25.8 percent) from the field, and just 1-of-11 from 3-point range...Lancaster Bible posted a 50-26 advantage on the boards, including a 35-18 edge in defensive rebounds...Hickey finished with a game-high 18 points, while Goyak had 14 points and 18 rebounds...Webster had eight points, two assists and two steals, while Boger had eight points as well...Sophomore Emily Morgan had seven points and six rebounds, and freshman Lizzy Tilton posted two points, 10 rebounds and five assists...Morgan Phillips had a team-high 11 points for the Lions.

The Coach Says: "I think our team refocused after our loss to Penn St. Berks earlier this month, and everyone is playing smart and with confidence," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "Heading into Tuesday, we want to focus on the little things, namely boxing out, finishing off our possessions, and playing solid defense."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 7-1 all-time against Bryn Athyn...The Chargers defeated the Lions, 66-47 earlier this season in Bryn Athyn, Pa...Lancaster Bible lost four of its first six home games, but has now won six straight at Horst Athletic Center...Saturday marked the sixth time this season Lancaster Bible has had 20 or more rebounds than its opponent...Goyak has posted 18 or more rebounds in four of her past five games.
