Team Effort Helps Chargers Into Win Column

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team broke into the win column for the first two times this season in a big way on Wednesday afternoon, as the Chargers combined for 33 runs over two games, in a doubleheader sweep of Penn St. York. Freshman Noah McMullen pitched six terrific innings in the 16-1 game one victory, while the Chargers pounded 19 hits in game two's 17-2 victory. Lancaster Bible is now 2-5 this season, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 0-4.

Lancaster Bible 16, Penn St. York 1 -- Game 1
Game Notes: Junior Will Welsh opened the scoring in game one, as he smacked a solo home run to dead center field to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the second...Sophomore Sam Taylor added another RBI in the second inning to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead, and Welsh was back at it in the bottom of the third, as he took a 3-0 pitch and blasted a two-run home run over the right-center field wall...Senior JJ Sanchez added a sacrifice fly in the third, as the Chargers took a 6-0 lead after three innings...While the offense was pumping out runs, freshman Noah McMullen was taking care of things on the mound, as he blew hitter-after-hitter away...McMullen didn't give up his first hit of the game until the fifth, and finished with six innings pitched, as he struck out seven, and allowed just the one hit...Lancaster Bible scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 16-0 lead, and Penn St. York scored its lone run in its final at-bat.

Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible smashed 14 hits, led by Sam Taylor's 4-for-5 day with five RBI's and two runs scored...Welsh finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored...Junior Jacob Alvarez was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Matt Taylor was 1-for-3 with three runs scored...Alex Peters had two hits for the Nittany Lions...McMullen's win was the first of his collegiate career.

Game Notes: Junior Colin Myers scored on a wild pitch in the first inning to get the scoring started, while Matt Taylor drove in a run on a base hit to left field later in the inning...Myers then added an RBI single in the second, before the Chargers exploded for nine runs in the third inning...Welsh's third home run of the day highlighted the third inning, while junior Adam Cohick, senior Jacob Schenck, Sam Taylor, senior Josh Mayer, and Myers also added RBI hits in the inning...Penn St. York got two runs back in the fourth inning, but the Chargers scored once in the fourth and four more times in the fifth to secure the victory...Schenck hit the first home run of his collegiate career in the fifth inning, as he crushed a pitch over the left-center field wall...Sophomore David Heuman and freshman Alex Gordley pitched the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, after starter Dan Zimmerman had a great start for the Chargers.

Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had 19 hits as a team, including three from Schenck who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored...Myers finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored with a walk...Sam Taylor added two more hits, while senior Braden Elliott was 2-for-5 with two runs scored...Welsh finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored...Alvarez had another hit in game two, while freshman CJ Halloran added his first collegiate hit in game two...Nate McFarland and Matt Taylor also added hits in game two...Zimmerman had seven strikeouts over four innings and allowed four hits and two runs.
