Chargers Handle Rams

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday night, defeating NAIA opponent Bluefield (Va.) College, 3-0 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers won, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 and improved to 11-4 this season, while the Rams fell to 5-10.

1st Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible nine of 11 points early in the set, taking an 11-3 advantage...Sophomore Kole Horst had two kills during the run, while seniors Kasey Gentry and Derek Bigley also added kills
-The teams exchanged points for the rest of the set, with Horst, Gentry and senior Sky Woelkers adding kills at the end of the set, as Woelkers sealed the first set victory for the Chargers

2nd Set Highlights:
-The Chargers took an early 9-6 lead after winning five of six points, capped by Bigley's kill
-Bluefield cut the Chargers' lead to 9-8, but Lancaster Bible used another run a few points later to build a 17-11 advantage on an ace by Horst
-Junior Daniel Kreider led the Chargers at the end of the set, as he had two kills on the final three points for Lancaster Bible, including set point, as he took a set from sophomore Kaleb Ansell and crushed it home for a 2-0 lead

3rd Set Highlights:
-After Bluefield won the opening two points of the set, Lancaster Bible rattled off seven of the next eight, as junior Nicholas Wesley had an ace, and Kreider added two more kills
-A kill from sophomore Jacob Faust made it 11-6, and a block from sophomore Benjamin Herb two points later, extended the Chargers' lead to 13-6
-The Rams cut their deficit to three, 15-12, later in the set, but Lancaster Bible won six of seven points, one of which came on an ace from freshman Zach Keating, as he served three straight points and helped give the Chargers a 21-13 lead
-Bluefield won five of seven points late in the set, to cut its deficit to 23-19, but Lancaster Bible closed out the match on a kill from Horst

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 33 kills and 21 errors on 82 attempts, for a 14.6 hitting percentage...Bluefield had 21 kills and 23 errors on 76 attempts for a -2.6 hitting percentage...Horst finished with a match-high 12 kills and five digs, while Kreider had nine kills and three blocks...Bigley had four kills and eight digs...Gentry added four kills, three blocks and six digs...Woelkers had two kills and two blocks, while junior Kurt Maysilles had four digs.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-1 all-time against Bluefield...The only other match between the teams came on Feb. 7, 2015 when the Rams won, 3-2 at Horst Athletic Center...Lancaster Bible is 4-1 at home this season...The Chargers have six three-set sweeps this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will face Wentworth and Alvernia on Saturday in Reading, Pa...The matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.
