The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team advanced to the North Eastern Athletic Conference Final for the third time in program history on Saturday, defeating Penn St. Altoona, 3-0 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers defeated the Nittany Lions, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 in the NEAC Semifinals to improve to 22-4 this season, while the Nittany Lions capped their season with a 16-13 record.
1st Set Highlights:
-The Chargers jumped out to a 4-2 lead early in the set thanks to two kills from junior Nate Miller, and another from sophomore Kole Horst, but the Nittany Lions responded with six straight points to grab an 8-4 leadÂ
-After a timeout, Lancaster Bible won three of four points, and later won 10 of 11 points to take a 17-12 advantage
-Senior Kasey Gentry was key in the scoring run, as he served five straight points and collected an ace...Fellow senior
Sky Woelkers added two blocks during the run as well
-The Chargers closed the set winning four of five points, as Woelkers capped the set with a solo block
2nd Set Highlights:
-Each team used an early run in the second set, though the Chargers took an 8-5 lead after winning six of seven points
-Lancaster Bible held a lead for much of set, though the Nittany Lions scored four straight points to cut their deficit to 16-14 midway through the set
-The Chargers recovered and again won four of the final five points to clinch the set
3rd Set Highlights:
-The third set went back-and-forth early on, though the Chargers won five of six points midway through to take a 15-11 lead
-The Nittany Lions cut their deficit to three, 19-16, but a Penn St. Altoona error, followed by another kill from Miller, gave the Chargers a 21-16 lead
-Sophomore Kaleb Ansell finished the match with his third kill, and the Chargers were headed to the NEAC Final
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 44 kills, 12 errors on 91 attempts for a 35.2 hitting percentage, while the Nittany Lions had 29 kills, 17 errors on 78 attempts for a 15.4 hitting percentage...The Chargers had six aces, while the Nittany Lions had zero, and Lancaster Bible held a 9-4 edge in blocks...Miller finished with 22 kills and three errors on 31 attempts for a 61.3 hitting percentage, while Horst had eight kills and four blocks...Junior Daniel Kreider had seven kills and three blocks, while Woelkers had a kill and five blocks...Gentry added three kills, three aces and nine digs...Justin Bannister had a team-high nine kills for the Nittany Lions.
