Arms and Bats Lead to Sweep

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team earned two huge North Eastern Athletic Conference victories on Wednesday, sweeping Gallaudet in a doubleheader in Washington, D.C. The Chargers took game one, 7-1, and earned a 9-2 victory in game two, as Lancaster Bible improved to 12-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Bison fell to 3-23-1 overall and 0-6 in NEAC play. 

Lancaster Bible 7, Gallaudet 1 -- Game 1
Game Notes:

-Gallaudet, the visitors in both games due to the games originally being scheduled for Lancaster, Pa., opened the scoring in the top of the first, but Lancaster Bible responded in the bottom half of the inning when junior Will Welsh hit a sacrifice fly that scored Sam Taylor who had walked to lead off the inning
-After a scoreless second inning, the Chargers scored three times in their half of the third, as sophomore Beau Heagy doubled to left field that scored Welsh and senior Braden Elliott…Junior Adam Cohick singled home Heagy later in the inning to give Lancaster Bible a three-run lead, 4-1
-Freshman Landon Mowry worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning, and the Chargers scored three more in the bottom half of the inning, as junior Colin Myers doubled to right-center, scoring Taylor and senior Jacob Schenck, while Welsh had an RBI groundout that scored Myers
-Junior Tyler Greenly three a scoreless final three innings for the Chargers, as he allowed three hits and struck out four
 
Inside the Box Score:
-Lancaster Bible had 10 hits, while Gallaudet had just five…Welsh finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Elliott was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk…Taylor finished 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks…Cohick was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Heagy, Myers and senior Josh Mayer also had a hit a piece…Mowry picked up the win, his second of the season, as he, Leonard and Greenly combined for 10 strikeouts and just one unearned run.

Game Notes:

-The Bison opened the scoring for the second straight game, and took a 1-0 lead to the bottom of the first, but Lancaster Bible again responded, this time in a big way, as the Chargers scored five times
-Welsh hit a two-run triple to left-center that scored Elliott and Myers who had singled prior to Welsh's at-bat, and Heagy followed Welsh with a double that made it 4-1 as Welsh crossed home plate
-Later in the inning with Taylor at the plate for the second time, Mayer scored on a wild pitch that made it 5-1, as the Chargers sent 11 players to the plate in the bottom of the first
-Gallaudet got a run back in the second inning, but the score would remain 5-2 through five innings, as each offense went cold, as the pitchers took over the game
-Welsh hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to make it 6-2 in favor of the Chargers, and Sam Taylor homered in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-2
-Heagy capped the scoring later in the eighth with a two-run single that scored Welsh and Elliott

-Lancaster Bible had 11 more hits in game two, led by Myers who was 3-for-5 with two runs…Welsh was 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs and two walks…Heagy finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, a run and a walk…Taylor was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run and two walks…Elliott was 1-for-5 with two runs, while Mayer and Cohick each added a hit as well…Four Lancaster Bible pitchers, Trevor High, Nate Staffieri, Noah McMullen and Cohick combined to allow just two earned runs and seven hits, while striking out 10 and walking four.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 15-21-1 all-time against Gallaudet…The Chargers are now 9-5 in games away from Charger Field this season…Welsh continues to be one of the best hitters in NCAA Division III, as he is hitting .556 with an on-base percentage of .639…Lancaster Bible has double-digit hits in six of its past seven games.
