Chargers Celebrate Senior Day with 3-0 Sweep of Mavs

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team had already clinched the top spot in next weekend's North Eastern Athletic Conference Final Four prior to Saturday's regular season finale against Medaille, but the Chargers played a strong match for three sets and swatted away a pesky Medaille team, defeating the Mavericks, 3-0 and finished the regular season riding an 11-match win streak. The Chargers cap the regular season with a 21-4 overall record, and a perfect 8-0 mark in NEAC play, while the Mavericks fell to 7-21 overall and 3-5 in conference action.

1st Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible won four of the first five points of the match, and eventually built an 8-4 lead after a kill from Nate Miller
-The Chargers led 14-10 later in the set, but rattled off eight straight points, as Miller served seven straight points, including stringing together three straight service aces…junior Daniel Kreider had two kills during the run as well, while sophomore Kole Horst and Miller had kills as well
-Medaille won four straight points late in the set, but a block assist from sophomore Kaleb Ansell and senior Sky Woelkers helped the Chargers to a 25-15 set one victory
 
2nd Set Highlights:
-Medaille held a small lead for the early parts of the second set, and eventually built a 16-12 lead midway through the set
-After a Lancaster Bible timeout, the Chargers won five of six points and tied the match at 17-17 on a block assist from Horst and Kreider
-Medaille called timeout, but could not stop the Chargers run, as the home team won three of the four points after the timeout, including two kills from Miller and another from Kreider
-The Mavericks closed the gap to two, 24-22, but a service error by the Mavs' Shawn Barbalato gave the set to the Chargers, 25-22
 
3rd Set Highlights:
-The teams exchanged points early in the third set, as Kreider gave the Chargers a 7-6 lead with another kill
-Lancaster Bible then won six of seven points, as Medaille committed four errors during the run
-The Mavericks responded with five straight points, and tied the match at 13-13 on an ace from Nick Patterson
-The Chargers fought back with four straight points of their own, as senior Derek Bigley and Horst had back-to-back kills to end the run
-Medaille battled back again, and grabbed a 21-20 lead after winning five straight points
-The Mavericks led 22-21 after a kill from Matt Dickerson, but two straight kills from Miller and two errors by Medaille gave the set and the match to Lancaster Bible
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 34 kills and 15 errors on 75 attempts for a 25.3 hitting percentage…The Mavericks had 28 kills and 20 errors on 93 attacks, for an 8.6 hitting percentage…Miller led all players with 12 kills, and added four aces and a block…Horst finished with nine kills, three blocks and seven digs, while Kreider had seven kills and four blocks…Senior Kasey Gentry had five kills three blocks and six digs…Ansell finished with 28 assists and three blocks, while junior Kurt Maysilles had a team-high 11 digs.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-7 all-time against Medaille…The Chargers have not lost since a 3-0 setback to third-ranked Stevens on March 3 in Hoboken, N.J…Lancaster Bible is now 10-1 at Horst Athletic Center this season…In eight NEAC matches during the regular season, the Chargers lost just one set…Lancaster Bible, the top seed, and Wells, the second seed, have earned byes to the NEAC Semifinals next Saturday…Penn St. Altoona will take on Medaille in one NEAC Quarterfinal, while SUNY Poly hosts Keuka in the other NEAC Quarterfinal…The Chargers will take on the winner of the Altoona - Medaille Quarterfinal.
