Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Grand Opening

After watching construction trucks come and go all summer long, and watching the turf be laid out over the past few weeks, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team was the first program at Lancaster Bible to use the Donald H. Funk Field in a collegiate game, and what a ribbon-cutting the Chargers gave.

Lancaster Bible used a five-goal second half barrage to cruise to a 6-0 victory over visiting Keystone on Thursday. The Chargers are now 2-3 overall this season, while the Giants fell to 0-6.

Game Recap: Jacki Moore scored the first goal in the history of Donald H. Funk Field just 1:57 into the game, as she gathered her own rebound and scored into the lower left-hand corner. The Chargers had several other offensive chances in the first half, but Keystone goalkeeper Rebekah Shepherd made a couple of good saves to keep the game at 1-0 at the half.

Lancaster Bible freshman Kayla Hubbard scored the first of two straight goals at 53:24 as she scored from outside the box to double the Chargers' lead, and then blasted a shot from 18 yards out at 61:39 to make it 3-0.

Junior Joy Trumbull scored her first goal of the season just over six minutes later, and fellow junior Maggie Arnold scored 2:02 later, and the rout was on. Bryanna Hoover drew a foul in the box at 79:30, and converted a penalty kick to cap the scoring, and give the Chargers their second straight shutout victory.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible held a 20-5 advantage in shots, including a 14-1 edge in shots on goal…The Chargers managed nine corner kicks, while the Giants had just one…Moore and Trumbull each finished with a goal and an assist…Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Erin Mikula made one save in her first collegiate start, and also picked up her first victory.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-1 all-time against Keystone…This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2010 season…After not scoring in their first three games of the season, the Chargers have exploded for 13 goals in the past two games…Hoover's penalty kick goal is the first for Lancaster Bible since Rachel Kumher converted a PK on Oct. 21, 2017 against Cazenovia.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, when the Chargers head to Abington, Pa. to face Penn St. Abington at 1 p.m.
