Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Bulldogs Bite Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Tuesday, as the Chargers fell to DeSales, 4-0 at Donald H. Funk Field. The loss drops the Chargers to 2-4-1 this season, while the Bulldogs improved to 3-4-2.

Game Recap: DeSales controlled play immediately, peppering the Chargers in the first four minutes. The offensive chances paid off at 4:01, as Natalie Dorsheimer took a pass from Sam Riccardi and scored past goalkeeper Erin Mikula to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.

The Chargers played much better following the DeSales goal, and maintained much more possession of the ball, even more than the Bulldogs for several minutes. Though no goals came of the possession, the Chargers played better than a year ago, when they were beaten by DeSales, 7-0 in Center Valley, Pa.

DeSales doubled its lead with less than two minutes to play in the first half, as Caroline Nealon scored off a free kick from 25 yards out.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-0 just 6:52 into the second half, as Jess Amick took a crossing pass from Nealon and scored into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

The teams split control of the ball over the final 30 minutes of the game, though DeSales made one final push with under a minute to play, and Annie Brush put home the final goal on a nice pass from Sydney Amato.

By the Numbers: DeSales outshot the Chargers, 19-8, including 9-3 in shots on goal…The Chargers had four corner kicks, while the Bulldogs had three...Mikula made five saves for the Chargers.

The Coach Says: "I'm proud of the girls for playing a full 90 minutes," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Ally Brown said. "We made some good second half adjustments, and I think we learned some things that we can use in our conference games coming up."

Information Hodge Podge: DeSales leads the all-time series between the teams, 4-0-1, with the tie coming in the 2003 season…The Bulldogs' early goal snapped a streak of 304 minutes the Chargers had not given up a goal…The Chargers are now 1-2 at home this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, when the Chargers welcome Keuka to Donald H. Funk Field for Homecoming…Game time is set for 11:30 a.m.
