The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 4-0 loss to Penn St. Berks on Saturday at Charger Field. The Nittany Lions extended their conference-record winning streak to 61, and their conference unbeaten streak to 70, and improved to 1-1 this season, while the Chargers fell to 0-2 this season.
Penn St. Berks suffered their last NEAC regular season loss on Oct. 15, 2011, when they lost to Penn St. Abington, 2-0.
Game Recap: Lancaster Bible held the lethal Penn St. Berks offense off the scoreboard for the opening 22 minutes of the game, but senior Caitlin Golden got free down the right-hand side at 22:48, and drilled a shot into the upper part of the net to put the Nittany Lions in front, 1-0.
Less than three minutes later, Monica Pinel took a crossing pass and headed the ball off the left post and into the back of the net to double Penn St. Berks' lead.
With just over four minutes remaining in the half, Alexis Schoener took a pass off a corner kick, and headed the ball through traffic and into the net to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead they would take into halftime.
Much of the second half was played through the midfield, though Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Rheeana Miles made a handful of nice saves for the Chargers. With just over six minutes remaining, Penn St. Berks junior Charlotte Pizzuto made it 4-0 in favor of the Nittany Lions, as she took a crossing pass from Golden, and scored her first goal of the year.
By the Numbers: Penn St. Berks held a 26-2 advantage in shots, including a 14-2 edge in shots on goal…The Nittany Lions had 15 corner kicks, while the Chargers managed just one…Lancaster Bible had 10 saves, while the Nittany Lions had two…Miles made seven saves for the Chargers, while Brown had three saves for Lancaster Bible.
The Coach Says: "I think we just need to be a little more disciplined in the midfield, but we fought hard, and didn't give up," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Ally Brown said. "Missing two strong defensive players hurt us on set pieces, but the team battled, and that was good to see."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-10 all-time against Penn St. Berks, and has not beaten the Nittany Lions since the 2012 NEAC Final…The Chargers were 4-6-1 at home a year ago…Just like last season, the Chargers have gone scoreless through their first two games of the season.
