Muskies Swim Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team opened the 16th season in program history on Friday night in Springfield, Ohio, falling to Lakeland, 3-0 at the Jim Coleman Invitational. The Muskies improved to 2-0 with the victory, while the Chargers dropped to 0-1, as Lakeland won, 26-24, 25-17, 25-22.
 
1st Set Highlights: Lancaster Bible trailed, 8-6 early in the opening set before rattling off five straight points to take an 11-8 advantage. The Chargers took advantage of four Muskies errors during the run, while Benjamin Herb capped the run with a kill. Lakeland recovered, and the teams engaged in a back-and-forth that lasted the entire set. Trailing 24-23, Lancaster Bible benefited from a service error to tie the set at 24-24, but an error by the Chargers, followed by a Lakeland kill, gave the set to the Muskies, 26-24.
 
2nd Set Highlights: Lancaster Bible won three straight points early in the second frame to take a 9-8 lead, as Kole Horst and Zeke Hallman teamed up for a block to tie it at 8-8, and then Hallman notched a solo block to give the Chargers a one-point lead. Lakeland won six of seven points midway through the set to grab a 21-16 lead, and then closed out the set, 25-17.
 
3rd Set Highlights: Lancaster Bible won the first four points of the third set, as Daniel Kreider opened and closed the run with kills. The teams again traded points for much of the set, though the Chargers found themselves down, 22-20 late in the set, before winning two straight points, the second coming off a kill from Jacob Faust. Lakeland however, won the final three points of the set, and took the match, 3-0.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible posted 28 kills and 26 errors on 97 attempts for a .021 hitting percentage, while the Muskies had 31 kills and 16 errors on 85 attempts for a .176 hitting percentage…In a very evenly played match, the Chargers held an 8-7 edge in blocks, while Lakeland had a 38-37 advantage in digs…Faust led the Chargers with eight kills, while Kreider and Horst each added seven kills…Kaleb Ansell had 27 assists and nine digs, while Kurt Maysilles posted a team-high 10 digs…Horst also added five blocks, while Hallman finished with four.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-2 all-time against Lakeland…The Chargers defeated the Muskies, 3-1 at this same tournament a year ago…Lancaster Bible dropped its season-opener for the seventh straight season, and fell to 3-13 all-time in season-opening matches…Ansell needs just 106 more assists to have 2,000 for his career.
