The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team began the new year as it ended the previous year, as the Chargers lost their ninth straight game with a 69-34 loss to Dickinson in Carlisle, Pa. Lancaster Bible is now 2-10 this season, while the Red Devils improved to 4-6.
How it Happened: Dickinson opened the game on a 7-0 run, and Lancaster Bible didn't score its first points until the 5:36 mark when
Becca Lucente netted two free throws. The Chargers' first bucket didn't come until there was 1:35 on the clock, and
Caitlin Hickey converted a layup and the adjoining free throw to bring Lancaster Bible to within 17-6.

After trailing 23-6 after 10 minutes of play, things went from bad to worse for the Chargers in the second quarter, as Dickinson opened up a 35-8 lead midway through the quarter, and it took Lancaster Bible another 4:20 to get a bucket. Dickinson continued to pour it on, and a late bucket by Hickey cut the Red Devils' lead to 41-16 at halftime.

Dickinson continued to extend its lead in the third quarter, and took a 36-point advantage with 24 seconds to play, before
Hope Hodges answered with a 3-pointer of her own in the final seconds of the third frame to make it a 56-23 game after 30 minutes. Lancaster Bible's largest deficit came midway through the fourth quarter when Dickinson took a 69-26 lead, but the Chargers fought to the final whistle, as
Mekenzie Smith scored the last four points of the game for Lancaster Bible.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot just 19.1 percent  (9-of-47) from the field, including 1-of-11 from 3-point range…The Chargers were 15-of-21 from the free throw line…Dickinson shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) from the floor, including 8-of-24 from beyond the arc…The Red Devils were 17-of-20 from the free throw line…Smith had a team-best 11 points, and added five boards, while Hickey had seven points…
Courtney Goyak had four points and 13 rebounds, while Hodges finished with six points…
Lizzy Tilton had four points and six rebounds in her first game back after missing the previous four games with an injury…Kate Deutsch had a game-high 27 points for the Red Devils.

The Coach Says: "We started off slow and just never recovered," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "Dickinson was great in transition and our defense is going to have to improve going forward if we are going to compete in games. I thought we were sloppy and stagnant offensively, but we have a week to prepare for our next game as we get back into NEAC play."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-2 all-time against Dickinson…The only other meeting between the teams came on Nov. 22, 2016 when the Red Devils defeated the Chargers, 58-56 in overtime…Goyak's 13 rebounds give her 1,292 for her career, moving her into 24
