Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Blue Jays Soar Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team dropped back-to-back games for the first time all season on Wednesday night, as the Chargers lost to cross-county foe Elizabethtown, 5-0 at the Donald H. Funk Field. The Chargers, who lost to Keuka on Sunday in overtime, are now 9-4-1 overall this season, while the Blue Jays improved to 9-3-1 this season.

How it Happened: After the opening six or seven minutes where the teams felt one another out, each team had offensive tries over the next few minutes, though both goalkeepers made early saves. The Blue Jays began to pressure the Chargers relentlessly as the first half progressed, and Garrett Winchilla put Elizabethtown in front, 1-0 at 18:16, as he collected a rebound off a shot by Tate Mohney.

The Chargers pressed for the equalizer after Winchilla's goal, and had a few offensive chances, but a turnover and mix-up between the Lancaster Bible defense and goalkeeper Jake Deterline led to Winchilla's second goal, as he picked up a loose ball and scored.

The Blue Jays led 2-0 through halftime, and put the game away early in the second half. Winchilla completed the hat trick at 53:30, as he took another pass from Mohney and scored from the top of the box. Just 15 seconds later, JD Haaf was gifted his eighth goal of the year, as he picked up a loose ball on yet another Lancaster Bible turnover, and chipped the ball over Deterline for a 4-0 lead.

Elizabethtown completed its scoring at 61:28, as Mohney crossed to Haaf who touched the ball to Cameron Sheva, and Sheva scored into the top left-hand corner of the net for his seventh goal of the year.
