Chargers and Fighting Tigers Play to Scoreless Tie

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team played to a scoreless tie on Saturday, as the Chargers and SUNY Cobleskill couldn't find a winner after 110 minutes of North Eastern Athletic Conference action at the Donald H. Funk Field. The tie sends the Chargers to 9-4-2 overall this season, and 4-2-2 in NEAC action, while the Fighting Tigers are now 7-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play.

How it Happened: In a game that featured 43 fouls, and 11 cards, Lancaster Bible and SUNY Cobleskill had limited offensive chances all day long. Lancaster Bible had four shots over the first 23 minutes of the contest, but couldn't get past Rashawn Best, SUNY Cobleskill's goalkeeper.

The Fighting Tigers had their best chance of the day with 2:04 remaining in the first half, but Darwin Velasco hit the crossbar and the game went to halftime with no score. The game came to standstill in the second half, as the teams combined for seven cards, including six by the Fighting Tigers.

Lancaster Bible's best chance of the entire game came at 56:43, as the Chargers earned a penalty kick. Joel Hughes stepped up and his shot was headed to the right-side of the net, but Best got his hand on it before it crossed the line, and made the save.

SUNY Cobleskill earned two red cards in the final 7:01 of the second half, and played with nine players throughout each overtime, but Lancaster Bible couldn't not convert, and settled for the tie.

Statistically Speaking: Lancaster Bible led in shots, 16-11, including 5-4 in shots on goal…SUNY Cobleskill's goalkeepers combined for five saves, while Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Jake Deterline made four…The Chargers also led in corner kick opportunities, 8-3…Eric Bailey and Joel Hughes each had four shots to lead the Chargers.

The Coach Says: "I thought we defended well against their direct play, but struggled to create some clear scoring chances," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We have to learn from this, and get better on Monday at practice. The NEAC standings are very cluttered right now, and we need to steadily improve from now until the end of the regular season and put ourselves in the best position possible."
