Chargers Clip Griffins in Double OT

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team won its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Gwynedd Mercy, 1-0 in double overtime in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. The Chargers are now 6-5 overall this season, while the Griffins dropped to 3-7-1 overall.

How it Happened: Gwynedd Mercy had two shots and two corner kick tries over the first 25 minutes of the game, but the first shot went wide of the net, and the second was saved by Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Rheeana Miles, and the game remained scoreless. Lancaster Bible had two shots later in the opening half, but both were corralled by Gwynedd Mercy goalkeeper Danielle Repkoe, and the game went to halftime knotted at 0-0.

The offense picked up a bit for each team in the second half, but once again, both goalkeepers were up to the task, as Miles made four saves in the second frame, and Repkoe made two.

Each team had a shot in the first overtime, but Gwynedd Mercy's went wide, while Repkoe made yet another save, this time on Sam Koons. In the second overtime, Lancaster Bible moved the ball up the field on a free kick, and it was collected by Megan Rogers, who took the ball and drilled a shot with her right foot, and found the back of the net to give the Chargers a thrilling 1-0 victory.

Statistically Speaking: Gwynedd Mercy outshot the Chargers, 9-6, but each team managed six shots on goal…Miles finished with six saves, and earned her second shutout of the season…The Griffins led in corner kicks, 7-0…Rogers' goal was her fifth of the season.

The Coach Says: "Tonight was a great team win, and the girls played really well together," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Ally Long said. "We had to move people around due to injuries, but they stepped up in big ways."
