Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Down Wildcats, Prep for NEAC Playoffs

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a resounding 4-1 victory over Cazenovia on Saturday at the Donald H. Funk Field, as the Chargers improved to 13-4-2 overall and 7-2-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Chargers joined four other teams in the NEAC with a .727 winning percentage, but due to conference postseason tie-breaking scenarios, Lancaster Bible will be the fifth seed in next week's NEAC playoffs, and will travel to fourth-seeded SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the NEAC Quarterfinals.

How it Happened: Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, though the Chargers put 10 shots towards the goal in the opening 45 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the second half looked like the first 45, but at 58:56, senior Joel Hughes took a pass from Kedric Yoder, and netted his second goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Hughes and Yoder teamed up again less than five minutes later, as Hughes scored his third of the year to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead at 63:22. The floodgates were opened from there, as Rusty Risteen scored his fourth goal of the year at 70:19 off a pass from Clark Shreiner, and senior Caleb Nelson celebrated his final game at the Donald H. Funk Field with a goal at 75:13 off a pass from Michael Eufemia.

Cazenovia scored just over a minute later to get on the scoreboard, but the Chargers ran out the clock over the final 13 minutes, and secured their ninth home win of the season.
