Program Notes
-Vanderhoff, in her fifth season, is now tied for the longest tenured head coach in program history, joining Martha MacCullough who led the program from 1975-80.
-Lancaster Bible will play the 1,000
th game in program history this season, as the February 8, 2020 tilt against Gallaudet at Horst Athletic Center will mark the occasion…The Chargers are 456-526 (.464) heading into the 2019-20 season.
-Lancaster Bible won six of its final seven games a year ago, including a 55-51 victory over Keuka who went on to win the NEAC North Division…The Chargers finished 9-16 overall, and 7-9 in NEAC play a year ago.
-Senior
Caitlin Hickey enters the season fourth all-time in program history with 1,421 points…She is just 579 points from 2,000, and can become just the second player in program history with 2,000 points, joining
Aubrey Folger (2012-16) who posted 2,141 points in her four seasons…Hickey has been named a NEAC All-Conference First Team player in each of the past two seasons, and was NEAC Rookie of the Year during the 2016-17 season.
-The Chargers were 5-8 at the Horst Athletic Center last season and will play 10 times at home this season, but just once during the first semester, as they open their home slate on Saturday, Nov. 23 against Mount Aloysius.
3 Questions for 2019-20
1. How will the Chargers fare in the first semester, as they combine seven new players with a tough non-conference slate?
-Lancaster Bible welcomes seven new players to fold this season, and they will jump right into things with tough non-conference games against Kean, Wheaton (Mass.), and York (Pa.), before playing their first and only NEAC game of the semester on Dec. 7 at Morrisville State.
2. Can the Chargers avoid putting themselves behind the eight-ball, and play well in December and January?
-Lancaster Bible went just 1-14 from Nov. 16 to Jan. 18 last season, and was effectively out of NEAC Playoff contention by mid-January…The Chargers will play just one non-conference game in the second semester, so every game is important, as it will have NEAC Playoff implications each night.
3. Can the five returning players from last season's team use the squad's great finish to start this season off on the right foot?
-Hickey, Lucente, Tilton, Hodges, and Graves played 123 combined games last season, and were a part of both the rough middle of the season, and the exciting conclusion…The five returners must guide the newcomers through a tough non-conference slate, and then prepare for basically two months of NEAC play…If all of this January and February can look like the last seven games from last season, the Chargers are in for good things this season.
