Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

So Close

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team lost its third straight contest on Tuesday night, falling to Cabrini, 77-74 at Horst Athletic Center. The loss sends the Chargers to 1-5 overall this season, while the Cavaliers improved to 3-4.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible took an early lead a minute into the contest, but it would be an uphill battle from there, as Cabrini grabbed a 15-8 lead after a layup from Voshon Mack with 14:12 remaining in the opening half.

The Chargers cut their deficit to one, 20-19, just under four minutes later on a 3-pointer from Jordan Shewbridge, but the Cavaliers grew the lead back to seven after back-to-back 3-pointers from Brice Parks and Keith Blassingale.

Cabrini expanded its lead to 11 with 41 seconds to play on two free throws from Ryan Byars, and eventually led, 47-37 after 20 minutes of play.

Lancaster Bible charged out of the gate in the second half, as a layup from Luke Beers 25 seconds into the half sparked a 10-0 run that Jackson Henri capped with a layup of his own 1:36 later to make it a 47-47 contest. Cabrini responded immediately, and embarked on a 10-2 run that Blassingale capped with a 3-pointer with 14:04 to play.

The Chargers took their turn to come back in this see-saw battle, as Henri converted another layup with 7:09 remaining and tied the game at 65-65. A 3-pointer from Beachy 90 seconds later gave the Chargers their first lead since 18:47 of the first half, as the home team led, 68-67 with 5:39 to play.

The game went back-and-forth from there, and Tyler Norris tied the game for the Chargers at 74-74 with 1:24 remaining, as he put back a rebound off a miss from Shewbridge. Cabrini's Voshon Mack made 3-of-4 free throws over the next two Cavalier possessions, and Lancaster Bible eventually had possession of the ball with nine seconds remaining.

Following a timeout, the ball went to Shewbridge in the corner with the clock expiring, and his 3-pointer rimmed out, as it went into as far into the basket a ball can go without going in, and Cabrini escaped with a 77-74 win.
