The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, as the Chargers lost to Gallaudet, 100-85 in the nation's capital. The loss drops the Chargers to 8-16 overall this season and 6-9 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Bison improved to 15-9 overall and 12-3 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 9-2 lead, thanks to two straight buckets from
Mekenzie Smith, followed by a 3-pointer from
Caitlin Hickey…The Chargers continued to lead, and built the advantage to 15-6 after a layup from
Courtney Goyak with 5:03 remaining in the opening quarter…The Bison went on an 11-1 run following the bucket from Goyak, and took a 17-16 lead on a 3-pointer from Emelia Beldon with 2:42 left in the first. The teams went back-and-forth over the final minutes of the quarter, and Gallaudet led, 24-22 after 10 minutes of play after a late layup from Kendall Hudson.

The teams continued trading baskets early in the second quarter, as Lancaster Bible cut their deficit to one, 30-29 after a jumper from
Lizzy Tilton. Gallaudet surged ahead with a 10-0 run however, as Hannah Neild's 3-pointer with 5:14 to play in the first half gave the Bison a 40-29 advantage. Lancaster Bible continued to play well offensively through the rest of the half, but the Bison couldn't be stopped at times, and the home team led, 54-44 at the break.

Gallaudet held its double-digit lead throughout the opening minutes of the third quarter, but Lancaster Bible chipped away, and a three-point play from Goyak with 3:22 left in the quarter, cut Lancaster Bible's deficit to four, 68-64. The Chargers stayed in the game through the end of the quarter, and trailed, 74-67 after 30 minutes of play.

The Chargers ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, as the Bison opened the frame on an 11-2 run, and led 85-69 with 5:59 to play after a three-point play from Hudson. Lancaster Bible cut the Gallaudet lead to 11 with under a minute to play, but would not get closer, and the Chargers' win streak was over.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 48.6 percent (35-of-72) from the field, including 5-of-13 from 3-point range…Gallaudet shot 51.4 percent (38-of-74) from the floor, including 6-of-17 from beyond the arc…The Bison were also 18-of-19 from the free throw line…Goyak had 28 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Chargers, while Hickey added 26 points…
Mekenzie Smith was the third player in double figures with 14 points, while
Lizzy Tilton had six points, five assists and three rebounds…
Leah Steiner had five boards and three assists, while
Hope Hodges had five points and an assist…Hannah Neild led four Bison players in double figures with 28 points.

The Coach Says: "We knew if we got into an offensive game with them, that it would be tough to beat them," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "Gallaudet is a tough team, and they played well tonight. I thought we competed well, but just struggled defensively at times."

On Goyak's Big Game: "Courtney had her best game of the season tonight, and played very balanced all night long," Vanderhoff said.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 14-2 all-time against Gallaudet…The Bison defeated the Chargers, 89-67 earlier this season in Lancaster…Goyak's 28 points tie a career-high, as she also had 28 points in a game against Penn St. Berks on Dec. 2, 2017…Hickey has scored 25 points or more in each of her past three games…Hickey now has eight games of 20 points or more this season…The Chargers finish the year with a 4-6 record in true road games, and a 4-8 record in all games away from Horst Athletic Center…The 85 points scored for the Chargers are a season-high, and the most for Lancaster Bible since the Chargers scored 86 in a victory over Penn St. Abington on Jan. 14, 2017…The 100 points given up are also the most for the Chargers this season, and the most since Lancaster Bible allowed 108 in a 108-82 loss to Penn St. York on Feb. 4, 2006…Wednesday marked just the 10
th time in program history that the Chargers have allowed 100 points.
