Virginia is for Sweeps

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team stretched its winning streak to three on Saturday, as the 12th ranked Chargers defeated Mount St. Joseph and Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Pa. The Chargers won the opener over the Lions, 3-0, and then defeated the Royals by the same 3-0 margin. Lancaster Bible is now 13-3 overall this season, and has won 13 of its past 14 matches.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible dominated the opening set of the match, as the Chargers went on a 9-2 run midway through the set to open a 14-5 advantage. Kole Horst had two kills during the run, while Joshua Rotz earned an ace. The Chargers continued to control the set, and had 12 kills against just one error in the opening frame, as they took the set, 25-12.
 
The Lions jumped out to a 10-5 lead, before the Chargers cut it to 10-9 with four straight points, as Benjamin Herb and Nate Miller had kills during the streak. After Mount St. Joseph rebuilt the lead to 13-10, Lancaster Bible again pushed back, and eventually took a 16-15 lead on a kill from Zeke Hallman. Hallman and Horst then combined for a block to make it 21-18 in favor of the Chargers a few points later, but the Lions recovered, and tied the set at 21-21 on an error from the Chargers. Horst slammed two kills over the next three points, and the Chargers then took advantage of two straight errors from the Lions, and took the set, 25-22.
 
Lancaster Bible looked to be in control of the third set, as the Chargers took an 18-12 lead after a service error from the Lions, but Mount St. Joseph began to battle back, and cut its deficit to 23-21 late in the set. The Chargers won the next point however on a kill from Kaleb Ansell to set up match point, but again the Lions held tough, and won the next three points to extend the set and match. The Lions fought off three more match points, while the Chargers fought off two set points before a block from Miller and Daniel Kreider put the Chargers ahead, 30-29. An ace from Miller ended the match on the next point, as the Chargers earned the 31-29 victory.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 41 kills and 14 errors on 97 attempts for a .278 hitting percentage, while the Lions had 35 kills and 20 errors on 99 attempts for a .152 attack percentage…The Chargers led in aces, 6-2, while each team had six blocks…Miller had 14 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, while Horst had 13 kills four digs and four blocks…Benjamin Herb chipped in with five kills, while Hallman had three kills and three blocks…Ansell had three kills and 36 assists, while Kurt Maysilles had a team-best 11 digs…Zack Storc had 15 kills to lead Mount St. Joseph.
 
Information Hodge Podge: This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools…The Chargers are now 3-2 in neutral site matches this season…The 10 digs are a season-high for Miller, while Horst's four blocks are his second largest output of the season.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead, as Herb had an ace to end the early run. After a point from Eastern Mennonite, the Chargers continued to control the set, and a late kill from Miller gave the visitors set point, which they took on the next point as the Royals committed an error.
 
Eastern Mennonite won five of the first six points of the second set, but the Chargers recovered quickly, and took a 7-6 advantage after a kill from Kreider. The teams exchanged points through the midway part of the set, before the Chargers won four straight points for a 19-15 lead, as Miller's ace capped the run. The teams again traded points, and Horst gave the Chargers a 25-20 set two victory with a kill.
 
The Chargers led the third set, 15-10 and then won five straight points, as another kill from Kreider ended the scoring run. Two kills from Jacob Faust gave the Chargers match point, and Ansell ended it the following point with a kill off a feed from Miller.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible 38 kills and seven errors on 64 attempts for a .484 hitting percentage, while Eastern Mennonite had 22 kills and 16 errors on 62 attempts for a .097 attack percentage…The Chargers held a 7-3 edge in aces, and a 21-15 advantage in digs…Miller and Horst each had nine kills, while Miller also added two aces and six digs…Kreider and Herb had seven kills each, and Herb added three blocks…Hallman had two more kills and two blocks, while Ansell had two kills and 29 assists…Jacob Faust also added two kills for the Chargers…Travis Abele had a team-best seven kills for the Royals.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-23 all-time against Eastern Mennonite…After losing the first 23 matches of the series, the Chargers have now won two straight against the Royals…Lancaster Bible is now 5-0 in true road matches this season…All of Lancaster Bible's victories this season have come in three sets…The Chargers are 40-9 in all sets so far this season…The .484 hitting percentage against the Royals is the highest average of the season for the Chargers, and the seven hitting errors are a season low.
