Last Minute Goal Lifts Giants Over Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday at the Donald H. Funk Field, as the Chargers gave up two goals in the final minute to Keystone, and lost, 11-10 to the Giants. The Chargers are now 0-2 this season, while the Giants improved to 1-0.
 
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 1-0 lead 32 seconds into the game, as Hannah Thompson opened the scoring. Keystone tied it 3:30 later on a goal from Alex Smith, and teams split goals again over the next four minutes, as Emily Morgan scored for the Chargers.
 
Lancaster Bible then netted three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead, as Thompson scored two more times, and Hope Privitera scored as well for the home team. The Giants scored the final goal of the first half with 4:35 to play, and the Chargers took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
 
Privitera and Thompson scored again to open the second half, and the Chargers led 7-3, but Keystone scored three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to 8-6 with 21 minutes to play. Kaylee Boger netted her second goal of the game to restore the three-goal lead for the Chargers, but Keystone cut the Lancaster Bible advantage to one, 9-8, after back-to-back goals from Smith and Nisa Cortes.
 
Courtney Stump increased the Lancaster Bible to 10-8 with 8:30 remaining, but Kayla Bain's third goal of the day brought the Giants back to within one with 5:51 to play. The Chargers held their one-goal advantage until Amy Llewellyn tied the game at 10-10 with 1:42 to play, and Keystone wasn't finished, as the Giants got the game-winner with 23 seconds remaining from Cortes, and stunned the Chargers in the final two minutes.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot the Giants, 32-26, and held a 19-15 edge in shots on goal…Keystone picked up 15 ground balls, while the Chargers collected 14…Thompson led the Chargers with four goals, while Boger and Privitera each had two…Emily Morgan had a goal and two assists, while Stump had a goal as well…Raegan Horst and Privitera also picked up assists for the Chargers…Becca Lucente gave up seven goals and made two saves in the loss, while Nicolette Statuti gave up four goals and made two saves for the Chargers…Smith had five goals to lead the Giants.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-3 all-time against Keystone…Saturday's game was the first-ever home game at the Donald H. Funk Field for the Chargers…Saturday was also the first time the Chargers have scored in double figures this season…Lancaster Bible scored 10+ goals in a game eight times last season…Through two games, the Chargers have scored seven goals in both the first half and second half…Lancaster Bible is averaging 25 shots per game over its first two games of 2019.
