Pair of Thursday Losses for Chargers in Myrtle Beach

The Lancaster Bible College softball team continued its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Thursday, and the Chargers lost twice, falling to Greenville (Ill.), 12-2 in six innings, and Centenary (N.J.), 5-3. Lancaster Bible is now 1-5 overall, and will wrap-up their week-long trip on Friday with two more games.
 
Greenville 12, Lancaster Bible 2 – 6 innings
Game Notes:
-Greenville opened the scoring in the top of the first, but Lancaster Bible came right back and scored twice in the bottom half of the inning, as Kendra Brown singled home Nicole DeKok and Zoie Senn to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead
-It was all Greenville from the second inning on, as the Panthers scored three times in the second inning and then five times in the third inning, to build a 9-2 lead after three frames
-Lancaster Bible had just two hits after the second inning, as DeKok added another hit in the sixth inning
-The Panthers put the game away in the sixth, as they tacked on three more runs
-This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams
 
Inside the Box Score:
-DeKok was 2-for-3 at the plate, and scored a run
-Brown was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI
-Rheeana Miles was 1-for-3
-Lancaster Bible hitters struck out six times
-DeKok picked up the loss, as she went six innings, allowing nine earned runs, while striking out three

Game Notes:
-Kendra Brown jump started the Lancaster Bible offense for the second straight game, as she again singled in two runs, and gave the Chargers an early lead
-Centenary got a run back in the third inning, but Brown was at it again in the bottom half of the inning, and her RBI single that scored DeKok, gave the Chargers a 3-1 advantage
-The Cyclones trimmed their deficit to one in the fourth inning, and then took the lead in the next inning, as Courtney Del's RBI single gave Centenary its first lead of the game at 4-3
-The Chargers loaded in the bases in the bottom of the fifth with one out, but couldn't get a run across, and Centenary added another run in the sixth to grab a 5-3 lead
-DeKok singled in the bottom of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Chargers couldn't convert, and dropped their second straight game
-This was the first-ever matchup between the two teams
 
Inside the Box Score:
-DeKok was 3-for-4 with two runs scored
-Brown was 2-for-3 with a walk, and also had three RBI
-Zoie Senn went 1-for-4, while fellow senior Morgan Burkholder was 2-for-3 with a run scored
-Tracy Hatton pitched well for the Chargers before running into trouble in the fourth inning, as she scattered five hits, and allowed just one earned run…DeKok entered and took the loss, as she allowed three runs, and struck out one batter

The Coach Says: "We left too many runners on base in the second game," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Jen Weitzel said. "Our goal is to keep getting better every game, and I hope we can buckle down and get one of the two games on our final day here tomorrow."
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will conclude its spring break week on Friday, as the Chargers take on Dean (1:30 p.m.) and Greenville (3:30 p.m.)
