Gators Pull Away from Chargers Late

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team, in what has become an early season theme, trailed early on Saturday at Notre Dame (Md.), fought back to within two, but ultimately lost, 16-9 in Baltimore, Md. The Chargers are now 0-5 this season, while the Gators improved to 2-2.
 
How it Happened: Notre Dame (Md.) opened the scoring a minute into the contest, and eventually led, 4-1 just over 10 minutes into the game, as Lancaster Bible's Kaitlyn Myers got the Chargers on the board. Senior Hannah Thompson brought the Chargers to within 4-2 with 18:21 to play in the first half, but the Gators rattled off five straight goals, and led 9-2 with 9:37 remaining.
 
Lancaster Bible didn't quit however, and scored the final three goals of the first half, and trailed, 9-5 heading into the break. The Chargers kept it going early in the second half as well, as senior Raegan Horst scored the first two goals of the second frame, with her second tally cutting the deficit to 9-7 with 17:38 remaining. The teams exchanged goals over the next five minutes, as Horst scored two more times, and Lancaster Bible trailed, 11-9 with 12:49 to play.
 
It was all Gators from that time however, as Julie Hagis restored the home team's three-goal lead, and after a goal with Notre Dame (Md.) up a player, Megan Morales scored the final three goals of the game.
 
By the Numbers: Notre Dame (Md.) outshot the Chargers, 30-26, though just 22-20 in shots on goal…Lancaster Bible collected 23 ground balls, and Notre Dame (Md.) won the draw control battle, 14-13…Horst finished with four goals and two assists, while also grabbing three ground balls, while Myers added two goals as well…Thompson had three goals and an assist to go with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and five draw controls…Camryn Horst had three ground balls and an assist…Kaylee Boger added two ground balls and two caused turnovers…Nicolette Statuti made six saves for the Chargers.
 
The Coach Says: "I'm excited about the progress we are making," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Cheri Horst said. "There are lots of things I am thrilled with from today, and there are also areas that we need to continue to get better."
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-3 all-time against the Gators…The Chargers are now 0-3 on the road this season…Saturday marked the first time this season the Chargers have lost the draw control battle…Thompson and Horst each have 16 points to lead the Chargers this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns home on Wednesday to host Eastern at 7 p.m.
