Eagles Soar Past Chargers Late

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team led Eastern for the better part of 60 minutes on Wednesday night at Donald H. Funk Field, but a late run by the Eagles doomed the Chargers, and Lancaster Bible lost its second one-goal game of the season with a 14-13 defeat. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-6 this season, while the Eagles picked up their first win of the season, and are now 1-3.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible senior Hannah Thompson, who was superb offensively all night, opened the scoring 3:04 into the game with her 16th goal of the year, and added another 2:25 later, after an Eastern goal, and gave the home team a 2-1 lead.

After an Eagles' goal, Raegan Horst and Thompson took turns scoring goals over the next four minutes, and the Chargers led, 8-5 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. Eastern scored a late goal to make it 8-6 at the break, but Emily Morgan scored 4:21 into the second frame, and restored Lancaster Bible's three-goal lead.

The Eagles recovered over the next 10 minutes, and grabbed a 10-9 lead with 15:17 to play after their fourth straight goal. In a game that went back-and-forth all night, the Chargers took their turn to grab the lead, as Thompson scored twice around another goal from Horst, and the Chargers led, 12-10 with 7:36 remaining.

After an Eastern goal, Katilyn Myers scored with the Chargers up a player with 4:24 remaining to make it a 13-11 lead for the Chargers. Eastern cut the deficit in half 18 seconds later, but Lancaster Bible bunkered down and held the Eagles off for over two minutes, before Meghan Kosmides scored her fifth goal of the half to tie the score at 13-13 with 1:44 remaining.

The Eagles took control of the ball again, and Sabrina Campbell scored a free-position goal with 42 seconds left to put the visitors ahead. Lancaster Bible had one last chance, but Morgan's shot was saved by Eastern goalkeeper Marcie Spencer, and the clock expired.
