Saturday Sweep

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team extended its winning six on Saturday, as the Chargers won twice, defeating Ramapo and Elmira by identical 3-0 scores. Lancaster Bible, ranked 12th in the country, is now 16-3 overall.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened a 5-2 lead as Daniel Kreider and Benjamin Herb combined for a block, but Ramapo fought back and trailed just 9-8 after an error by the Chargers. The teams engaged in a back-and-forth, and Ramapo tied the set at 15-15 after a block. The Chargers won the next three points thanks to kills from Kole Horst and Nate Miller, followed by a Roadrunner error, and eventually won the set, 25-18, as Miller ended it with a kill.
 
The teams went back-and-forth to open the second set, and the Chargers trailed 13-10 after an error midway through the frame. Lancaster Bible won five of the next seven points however, and tied the match on a kill from Herb. With the set tied, 18-18, Miller and Herb put together kills around a Ramapo error, and took a 21-18 lead, and later won the set, 25-21, as Kreider slammed home a kill.
 
Lancaster Bible put its foot on the gas midway through the third set, and won six of seven points, as Zeke Hallman earned a kill to make it 15-8 in favor of the Chargers. Lancaster Bible continued to lead, and got a late kill from Joshua Rotz, before winning the match on a service error from the Roadrunners.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 38 kills and 21 errors on 88 attempts for a .193 hitting percentage, while the Roadrunners had 22 kills and 18 errors on 85 attempts for a .047 attack percentage…Miller had a match-high 19 kills to go with an ace and four digs…Horst added four kills and six digs, while Kreider finished with six kills and three blocks…Herb added five kills and seven digs, and Kaleb Ansell added 32 assists and three blocks…Jason Van Der Wilt had a team-high six kills for Ramapo.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-6 all-time against Ramapo, as the Chargers defeated the Roadrunners for the first time in program history…Lancaster Bible won via a sweep for the 14th time this season…It marked the second straight match that Miller had 19 kills…This was the first time all season the Chargers have won with an under .200 hitting percentage.

How it Happened: For the second straight match, Lancaster Bible jumped out of the gate, and took a 6-1 lead after an error by the Soaring Eagles. Elmira recovered and tied the set at 9-9 after winning five of six points, but Lancaster Bible won six of seven points midway through the set, and grabbed a 17-11 lead after a kill from Herb. Lancaster Bible closed out the set by winning five of six points, as a service error by Elmira gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
 
Keating continued his strong serving in the second match as well, and his ace gave Lancaster Bible a 10-6 early in the second set. The Chargers led, 17-11 later in the set, but Elmira rallied, and closed it to 17-16 after an ace from Dan Symer. Lancaster Bible restored a three-point lead, but Elmira won six of the next seven points, and led 22-20, as the Chargers called timeout. Out of the timeout, Lancaster Bible collected itself and won five of the final six points, and a block assist from Hallman and Miller gave the Chargers a 25-23 set two victory.
 
 
The teams exchanged points to open the third set, though the Chargers grabbed a 9-6 lead on a service ace from Ansell. The Soaring Eagles battled back again, and led 12-11, before the Chargers won five of six points and took a 16-13 advantage on another kill from Horst. Neither team could make much of a run the rest of the way, and Lancaster Bible won the set and the match on a kill from Kreider.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 36 kills and 13 errors on 73 attempts for a .315 attack percentage, while Elmira had 27 kills and 20 errors on 76 attempts for a .092 hitting percentage…Miller posted 11 kills and five digs to lead the Chargers, while Horst had 10 kills, nine digs, and two aces…Kreider had six kills and four blocks, and Herb had six kills as well to go with two blocks…Hallman chipped in with two kills and two blocks, while Ansell had 30 assists, an ace, and a two blocks…Ryan McDonough had 10 kills to lead the Soaring Eagles.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-1 all-time against Elmira…The Chargers have won six in a row, and are now 16-1 in their past 17 matches…The six-match winning streak is the third winning streak of six or more in the past two seasons…Lancaster Bible has won 49 sets this season, and dropped just 10…The Chargers have 34 kills or more in all 16 of their victories this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will hit the road for its next four matches, beginning on Wednesday night, as the Chargers head to Union, N.J. to face fifth-ranked Kean at 6 p.m.
