Lancaster Bible Earns Doubleheader Split

The Lancaster Bible College softball team played its first home games of the season on Wednesday, splitting a doubleheader with Cairn at Charger Field. The Highlanders posted a 7-5 comeback victory in game one, while the Chargers broke a 2-2 tie late in game two to earn a 4-2 victory. The Chargers are now 3-9 overall this season, while the Highlanders are 5-7.
 
Cairn 7, Lancaster Bible 5 – Game 1
Game Notes:
-The Chargers opened the scoring in their first at-bat, as Morgan Burkholder scored Zoie Senn on an RBI groundout
-Cairn took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a two-run single by Tori Knox
-Lancaster Bible answered right back in the bottom of the inning, as Zoie Senn stole home to tie the game at 2-2
-The Chargers scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, as Alyssa Groff had an RBI groundout, and Zoie Senn singled home Rheena Miles and Bryanna Hoover to build a 5-2 lead for the home team
-Cairn got a run back in the fifth inning, but Lancaster Bible held a 5-3 lead after six innings of play, and needed just three outs to earn the game one win
-Those three outs would come, but not before the Highlanders put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh
-The Chargers brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the inning after Nicole DeKok reached on an error and advanced to second, but she would be stranded there as the Highlanders earned the game one win
 
Inside the Box Score: Burkholder finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Chargers, while Zoie Senn was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI…Martina McCauley was 1-for-2 with a run scored…DeKok started and went six innings, allowing just six hits and four runs, while striking out eight…Haley Tinney was 4-for-4 with two runs to lead Cairn.
 
 
Lancaster Bible 4, Cairn 2 – Game 2
Game Notes:
-The Highlanders opened the scoring in game two with two runs in the top of the first, but Lancaster Bible came right back in the bottom half of the inning, as Zoie Senn tripled home McCauley who had singled to lead off the inning
-Burkholder singled home DeKok later in the inning to tie the game, 2-2
-Despite each team scoring twice in the first, the game turned into a pitcher's duel, as neither team could get much done offensively…McCauley was terrific for the Chargers, as she navigated through the Highlanders' line-up inning after inning
-In the bottom of the sixth, Zoie Senn reached base with a single, and after an out, Burkholder came to the plate an smashed a home run to give the Chargers a 4-2 lead
-Cairn put a runner on third with one out in the top of the seventh, but Tinney lined into a double play, and the Chargers secured the split
 
Inside the Box Score: Burkholder finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored…Zoie Senn was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI…McCauley, Miles, Hoover and Marissa Senn also had hits for the Chargers…McCauley went the distance for her first win of the season, as she scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run, while striking out five.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 7-19 all-time against Cairn…Burkholder's home run was not only the first for her this season, but the first for Lancaster Bible as well…The home run was the third of Burkholder's career…DeKok, Burkholder, and Zoie Senn all have double-digit hits this season, while Senn is the first player to reach double-digit runs scored this season…Lancaster Bible had a double, triple and home run in the game two victory.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible opens North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend, as the Chargers host Penn St. Abington on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against St. Elizabeth.
