Golden Wolves Topple Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight contest on Thursday afternoon, falling to Alvernia, 15-6 at the Donald H. Funk Field. The Chargers are now 0-4 overall this season, while the Golden Wolves improved to 2-0.
 
Ho w it Happened: Alvernia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, as the visitors got goals from four different players over the first 12:20 to build the early advantage. Lancaster Bible's Hannah Thompson got the Chargers on the board at 16:42, but the Golden Wolves responded with two more goals, and led 6-1 with less than 13 minutes remaining in the opening half.
 
Senior Raegan Horst scored back-to-back goals later in the half to cut the Chargers' deficit in half, but the Golden Wolves' Erika Whitmoyer scored with 2:11 remaining in the first half, and Alvernia took a 7-3 lead into halftime.
 
After Alvernia scored the opening goal of the second half, Thompson scored two goals 4:15 apart, and Lancaster Bible trailed just 8-5 with 23:35 remaining in the second half. The Chargers' offense went cold over the next 10 minutes however, and Alvernia scored three times, and took an 11-5 lead on a goal by Madison Hengey with 13:52 to play.
 
Horst scored her third goal of the game with 12:01 to play, but the Chargers wouldn't score again, and Alvernia ended the game as it started, by scoring four straight times.
 
By the Numbers: Alvernia outshot the Chargers, 38-17, including a 24-13 edge in shots on goal…Each team had 11 draw controls, while the Chargers held an 11-6 advantage in ground balls…Horst and Thompson each had three goals for the Chargers, while Horst also added two assists…Nicolette Statuti had nine saves for Lancaster Bible in the loss…Rachel Judge had five goals to lead the Golden Wolves.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-5 all-time against Alvernia…The Chargers are 0-2 at home this season…Thursday was the fourth straight game the Chargers have had 11 or more draw controls in a game…Lancaster Bible has given up 11 goals or more in each of its four games this season…Lancaster Bible's 17 shots were tied for a season-low.
