Chargers Sweep Morrisville State

The Lancaster Bible College softball team capped its trip to upstate New York with two wins on Saturday, as the Chargers swept a doubleheader from Morrisville State. Lancaster Bible took game one, 12-4, and then won, 6-1 in eight innings in game two. The Chargers are now 11-17 overall and 5-7 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs dropped to 1-21 overall and 1-7 in NEAC action.
 
Game 1
Lancaster Bible 12, Morrisville State 4
How it Happened: The Chargers got on the board in the first inning, as Rheeana Miles reached on an error and Zoie Senn scored, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Morrisville State answered with runs in the first and third innings to take a 3-1 lead, but Lancaster Bible's offense woke up in the third inning and scored four runs.
 
Nicole DeKok, Bryanna Hoover and Alyssa Groff had RBI hits in the third, as Groff capped the run by driving in two runs to make it a 5-3 game in favor of the Chargers. Hoover scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to extend the lead, and Marissa Senn followed with an RBI single that scored Kendra Brown to make it 7-3 Lancaster Bible. DeKok hit a three-run double later in the inning, as the Chargers blew open the game, 10-3.
 
Morrisville State got a run back in the sixth inning, but Zoie Senn's two-run double in the seventh gave the Chargers an eight-run lead, 12-4.
 
Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had nine hits in game one, as Martina McCauley was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored…Zoie Senn was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs…DeKok finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored…Marissa Senn was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI…Tracy Hatton was terrific in the circle, as she scattered 10 hits, and allowed just three earned runs while striking out two.
 
Game 2
Lancaster Bible 6, Morrisville State 1 (8 innings)
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible scored in the top of the first, as DeKok recorded an RBI groundout that scored McCauley. From there DeKok pitched a brilliant game for the Chargers, as she didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, and Lancaster Bible led, 1-0 through 5 ½ innings.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Morrisville State put runners on the corners with one out, and got a groundout to short, and tied the game at 1-1, and DeKok worked out of the rest of the inning. Neither team could score in the seventh inning, and the game headed to extra innings.
 
Zoie Senn doubled home Marissa Senn and McCauley to give the Chargers a 3-1 lead in the eighth, and DeKok followed with a double of her own that plated Senn. Burkholder singled home DeKok, and Hoover scored later in the inning to cap the five-run eighth.
 
Inside the Box Score: Groff finished 2-for-4 in game two, while Zoie Senn and DeKok each went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run…Miles was 1-for-4, while McCauley was 1-for-4 with two runs…DeKok pitched all eight innings, as she allowed just five hits and one earned run, while striking out four.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 4-0 all-time against Morrisville State…The Chargers swept the Mustangs in Lancaster last season…The Chargers have now won 11 games in five of the six seasons since softball was brought back as a varsity sport…Lancaster Bible is 5-4 in true road games this season…DeKok has a five-game hitting streak, and is now has a 5-10 record as a pitcher this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will play its final non-conference games of the season on Tuesday, as the Chargers host Penn St. Schuylkill for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
