Lancaster Bible's Win Streak Snapped

The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team saw its seven-match win streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Chargers lost to Penn St. Abington, 5-4 in Abington, Pa. The Chargers are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions are 5-7 overall and 3-0 in NEAC play.
 
Penn St. Abington takes on Penn St. Berks on Sunday, and if Berks wins, Lancaster Bible and Penn St. Abington will tie for first place in the NEAC, but if Penn St. Abington wins, the Nittany Lions will win the NEAC Regular Season title.
 
How it Happened: The No. 1 doubles team of Greta Strunk and Kayla Hubbard earned a tough, 8-6 victory to get the Chargers on the board, but Penn St. Abington won the other two doubles matches, as the No. 2 team of Michaela Dearborn and Haylee Fishel dropped n 8-4 decision, and the No. 3 team of Sarah Wetzel and Kenedi Berkhimer lost a close, 8-6 match.
 
Strunk rebounded from her Friday's singles loss with a 6-2, 7-6 victory at No. 1 singles, while Dearborn dropped her match at No. 2 singles. Hubbard saw her eight-match win streak end at No. 3 singles, as she lost a tough three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Fishel won her No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 6-3, and Wetzel picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles. Berkhimer dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 6 singles.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-9 all-time against Penn St. Abington…Fishel has won four straight matches, and is now 4-0 at No. 4 singles, and 7-3 overall this season…Strunk and Hubbard are 3-1 at No. 1 doubles this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will host its final match of the season on Tuesday, as the Chargers take on Bryn Athyn at 3 p.m…The match will be played at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa.
