The Lancaster Bible College baseball team suffered a tough loss on Sunday, as the Chargers gave up a big lead in the late innings, and then lost in the 10 inning to SUNY Poly, 9-8. The Chargers are now 8-12 overall and 4-5 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improved to 7-17 overall and 5-4 in NEAC action.
Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible scored in the first inning for the third time in the series, as
Nate McFarland singled and advanced on a passed ball, followed by a walk to
Jacob Schenck and an error on the shortstop that put
Will Welsh on first. With the bases loaded,
Adam Cohick hit a sacrifice fly that scored McFarland, and
Jake Hahn followed with a single that scored Schenck.
Â
The Chargers expanded the lead to 3-0 in the third inning, as Welsh tripled, and scored a batter late when Cohick singled to left field. That offense was all Lancaster Bible starter
Tyler Greenly needed, as he pitched masterfully against the Wildcats. Greenly allowed just three hits over the first five innings and one run, and the Chargers' offense provided him two more runs in the sixth inning, as
Jaden Pinkney singled, and then scored on a double by
Josh Saufley. McFarland then singled home Saufley, and the Chargers led, 5-1 after six innings.
Â
Lancaster Bible scored three more times in eighth inning, as Saufley and Schenck had RBI hits in the inning. SUNY Poly got a run back in the eighth, and then scored six times in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, 8-8. Greenly got one out in the inning, but the Wildcat bats finally woke up, and eventually scored four runs that were charged to Greenly, and two to Cohick who came in in relief.
Â
SUNY Poly put the first two runners on in the 10th, and then Bradley Dietz sacrificed the runners to second and third. After a walk loaded the bases, James Lynch singled to left field and scored Michael Cough to win the game for the home team.
