Two Days, Two Locations, Two Wins

It certainly didn't go to schedule, but the Lancaster Bible College softball team made the most of their contests against Washington Adventist over the past 24 hours, as the Chargers defeated the Shock, 19-9 on Tuesday afternoon in Takoma Park, Md., and then 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa. The Chargers are now 6-12 overall this season, while the Shock dropped to 6-10. The six victories for the Chargers are already more than the team had all of last season.

Tuesday's Game
Lancaster Bible 19, Washington Adventist 9 -- 5 innings
How it Happened:
Both teams scored three times in the first inning, as Martina McCauely, Zoie Senn and Nicole DeKok scored runs in the first frame. Lancaster Bible added three more runs in the second inning, as DeKok and Kendra Brown had RBIs, and Senn scored again on an error.
 
The Chargers blew the game open in the third inning, as they scored six times, and built a 12-3 lead. Eleven batters came to the plate in the third inning, including Bryanna Hoover who reached base twice in the inning. The Shock got two runs back in the fourth inning, but Lancaster Bible responded with seven more runs in the top of the fifth inning, and eventually won by 10. Zoie Senn hit a three-run home run in the inning, connecting for her first home run of the season.
 
By the Numbers: Each team had 14 hits, as Zoie Senn led the way for Lancaster Bible, going 4-for-4 with a walk, four runs scored and three RBIs…McCauley was 2-for-3 with a walk, four runs and two RBIs…Burkholder was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored, while DeKok was 1-for-3 with a walk, four RBIs and two runs scored…Hoover added two hits, and two runs, while Rheeana Miles had a hit and three RBIs…Alyssa Groff was 1-for-1 with a walk, two runs and an RBI…Kendra Brown was 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI…DeKok earned the win for Lancaster Bible as she allowed nine runs, but struck out five.
 
Wednesday's Game
Lancaster Bible 8, Washington Adventist 7
How it Happened: Like Tuesday, Washington Adventist scored three times in the first inning, but unlike Tuesday, Lancaster Bible did not score in the first, and trailed, 4-0 after 1 ½ innings. Tracy Hatton got the Chargers on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run single that scored Brown and Miles.
 
The Shock scored two more runs in the third inning, but Lancaster Bible answered in the fourth, and got the two runs back on a double by DeKok that scored Robin Bateman and McCauley. Washington Adventist increased its lead back to three at 7-4 in the sixth inning, and held the three-run advantage until the bottom the seventh.
 
Miles led off the inning with a walk, and Hoover followed with a single. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch, and Brown drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Marissa Senn drew a walk next, which drove in Miles. After an out, with the bases still loaded, McCauley singled to center to drive in two runs, and knot the game at 7-7. Zoie Senn followed with another single which scored her sister Marissa, and the Chargers had their third win in four games.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 10 more hits on Wednesday, as McCauley continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored…Zoie Senn and DeKok each had two hits, while Miles and Brown each scored two runs…McCauley, Hatton and DeKok each pitched on Wednesday, as DeKok pitched the final three innings and allowed just two hits and one run, while striking out three for her fourth win of the season.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-0 all-time against Washington Adventist…The Chargers are 3-4 at home this season…DeKok leads the team with 22 hits this season…Over the past eight games, McCauley has seen her batting average rise by 126 points from .214 to .340…She has nine-game hitting streak, and 10 hits in her past five games.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday, as the Chargers host SUNY Poly at 3 p.m.
