Chargers Post 17-6 Victory at Penn St. Abington

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team secured its first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday, as the Chargers earned a 17-6 victory over Penn St. Abington in Abington, Pa. Lancaster Bible is now 2-9 overall this season, and 1-2 in NEAC play, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
 
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible senior Hannah Thompson scored 3:01 into the contest to get the Chargers on the board, and the teams would go goal-for-goal over the first 12:30 of the game, as the contest was tied 2-2. With just under 17 minutes remaining in the first half, the Nittany Lions took a 3-2 lead on Kiera O'Keeffe's second goal of the game, but senior Raegan Horst scored 1:48 later to tie the game at 3-3.
 
Horst scored again three minutes later, and Thompson followed with two straight goals to give the Chargers a 6-3 lead with 6:31 to play. Penn St. Abington netted the next two goals, but Thompson scored again with 1:27 remaining in the half, and the Chargers took a 7-5 lead into halftime.
 
The second half belonged to the Chargers, as Lancaster Bible scored the first seven goals of the second frame, as Horst and Thompson took turns scoring goals for the visitors. Horst scored her final goal of the game with 4:30 remaining to make it 15-6, and Thompson capped her day with nine goals, and netted her final tally 35 seconds after Horst. Kaitlyn Myers ended the scoring with 2:12 to play, and the Chargers had their first NEAC victory.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had a 39-21 advantage in shots, and a 30-14 edge in shots on goal…Lancaster Bible scooped up 30 ground balls, and held an 18-7 advantage in draw controls…Horst finished with seven goals and two assists to go with seven draw controls…Thompson had nine goals and an assist, and added 11 ground balls and eight draw controls…Sarah Vega also had an assist and three ground balls, while Myers had a goal and four ground balls…Hope Privitera, Amanda Hay and Thompson each caused three turnovers…Nicolette Statuti made eight saves to earn her second win of the season.
 
The Coach Says: "I'm so proud of the team," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Cheri Horst said. "We played the whole game with 11 players and once again, played many players out of position and out of their comfort zones, but they played great. Our draw control advantage was huge for us, and our defense really stepped up as well."
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-6 all-time against Penn St. Abington…The 17 goals are a season-high for the Chargers…Lancaster Bible's 30 ground balls are also a season-best for the Chargers, as are the 30 shots on goal…Thompson set a career-high with her nine goals on Saturday, and that is tied for the fourth-most in a single-game in program history.
