Chargers Celebrate Senior Day with 3-0 Win Over NYU

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team capped its regular season with the team's ninth straight win on Saturday, as the Chargers defeated New York University, 3-0 at Horst Athletic Center. The ninth-ranked Chargers won, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20, and improved to 25-4 overall this season, while the Violets dropped to 12-10 overall.
 
How it Happened: NYU won six of seven points early in the opening set, and took a 12-7 lead on a kill from Evan Lindley. Lancaster Bible battled and cut its deficit to 16-14 on a kill from Kyran Flahive, but the Violets took the next three points, and led 19-14 late in the set. The Chargers wouldn't go away quietly, but still trailed, 23-21 after a kill from John Alexander.
 
After a service error by NYU, Lancaster Bible tied the set at 23-23 on a block assist from Zeke Hallman and Flahive. NYU called timeout, but out of the break, Nate Miller fired an ace for the Chargers, and they took their first lead of the set since, 1-0. A kill from Benjamin Herb gave the set to the Chargers, 25-23, and the home team was off to the races.
 
The Chargers won seven of the first nine points of the second set, as Miller had two kills during the run, and Kaleb Ansell had a big solo block. NYU cut the Chargers' lead to 13-9 midway through the set, but Lancaster Bible responded, and took an 18-9 lead after five straight points. Lancaster Bible led, 22-17 late in the set, and took three of the final four points of the second frame to earn a 25-18 victory.
 
Despite trailing, 2-0, NYU wouldn't go away, and led 13-11 midway through the third set after winning five of six points. Lancaster Bible returned the favor, and took four of five points a few points later, and led 15-14 after an error by NYU. The Violets tied the set at 16-16, but Lancaster Bible got some great serves from Joshua Rotz who had two aces, and re-took the lead, 19-16.
 
The Chargers ended the set and match by earning five of the final six points, as Herb closed the day with a kill.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 30 kills and 13 errors on 82 attempts for a .207 hitting percentage….NYU had 35 kills and 19 errors on 83 attempts for a .193 attack percentage…The Chargers also led in aces, 8-1, while NYU held a 32-23 edge in digs…Miller had nine kills, three digs, two aces and two blocks in the win, while Herb had six kills, two aces and four digs…Flahive had six kills and two digs, and Daniel Kreider had four kills…Ansell finished with 22 assists, two blocks and two kills…Neil Ferraro led the Violets with 11 kills.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Saturday was the first-ever meeting between the two schools…Lancaster Bible is now 12-1 at Horst Athletic Center this season…The Chargers have won 15 of their past 16 games, with the lone loss coming to No. 4 Stevens…The 30 kills are the lowest in a win all season long for the Chargers...Lancaster Bible honored its four seniors, Daniel Kreider, Garyd Martin, Joshua Rotz and Nicholas Wesley, prior to the match.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will host the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs next Saturday and Sunday, as the Chargers will take on Keuka in Saturday's first semifinal, which is slated for 12 p.m…The other two teams in the NEAC Playoffs, Wells and SUNY Poly, will begin their semifinal match at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster…Saturday's winners will meet in the NEAC Final on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
