Chargers and Gators Split Doubleheader

The Lancaster Bible College softball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday at Notre Dame (Md.), as the Chargers snapped a three-game losing streak with a game two victory. The Chargers lost game one, 5-0, but rebounded for a 14-3 five-inning victory in game two, and now stand at 8-16 overall this season. The host Gators are 7-7 overall after Tuesday's games.
 
Game 1
Notre Dame (Md.) 5, Lancaster Bible 0
How it Happened: Notre Dame (Md.) scored twice in the first inning to get on the board, while the Chargers didn't record their first hit until the third inning, when Martina McCauley singled down the left field line.
 
Rheeana Miles singled in the fourth and advanced to second later in the inning, but was stranded there, and the Gators made it 3-0 an inning later. Lancaster Bible threatened again in the sixth inning, as Nicole DeKok reached on an error and Morgan Burkholder singled with two outs to put runners on the corners, but Miles' hard-hit ball went right to the shortstop and ended the inning.
 
Notre Dame (Md.) tacked on two more runs in its half of the sixth inning, and the Chargers never threatened in the seventh, losing, 5-0.
 
Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had just four hits in game one, while DeKok and Alyssa Groff drew walks…DeKok pitched the first inning and took the loss, while McCauley pitched five innings in relief and allowed just four hits and three earned runs, while striking out four.
 
Game 2
Lancaster Bible 14, Notre Dame (Md.) 3 – 5 innings
How it Happened: It was Lancaster Bible who got on the board first in game two, as McCauley scored, followed by Burkholder, and Miles. The Gators cut into Lancaster Bible's lead in the second, and made it 3-1.
 
The Chargers responded with an eight-run third inning, as they sent 12 batters to the plate, had six hits, and took advantage of two Gator errors. Kendra Brown had a two-run single in the inning, while McCauley also had a two-run single as well. Zoie Senn, DeKok and Burkholder also had RBI hits in the inning.
 
Lancaster Bible tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning, as Bryanna Hoover led off with a triple, followed by Brown doubling her home. Marissa Senn had an RBI groundout later in the inning, and the Chargers led 13-1 after four innings, before winning, 14-3.
 
Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had 12 hits in game two, as Brown was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs…DeKok was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Miles and Hoover also had two hits each…McCauley was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs…McCauley pitched the first wo innings, and scattered five hits, while Tracy Hatton pitched the final three innings and earned her second win, as she too gave up five hits, and also struck out five batters.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-1 all-time against Notre Dame (Md.)…The Chargers are 2-3 in true road games this season…Game two was the fifth time this season the Chargers have had double-digit hits…After recording just nine hits over their past three games, the Chargers connected for 12 hits in game two…Lancaster Bible is batting .262 as a team this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible heads to upstate New York this weekend, and the Chargers will face Cazenovia on Friday and Morrisville State on Saturday.
