Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Late Goal Sinks Chargers in Opener

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team began its 2019 season with a 1-0 loss to Waynesburg at the Donald H. Funk Field, as the Yellow Jackets scored with 7:57 to play, and earned the one-goal victory. The Chargers are now 0-1 this season, while Waynesburg improved to 1-0.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible earned a corner kick just 4:16 into the contest, but the Chargers struggled to find offensive chances for the rest of the opening 45 minutes, as did the visiting Yellow Jackets, and the teams combined for just five shots in the first half. Waynesburg had two shots saved by Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Erin Mikula over the opening 14 minutes, and the teams traded possessions for the final 31 minutes.

Both teams began to find a little rhythm offensively midway through the second half, and the Yellow Jackets earned a corner kick with 25 minutes to play. Lancaster Bible senior Maggie Arnold had two shots for the Chargers later in the second half, including one chance from in close that just went wide of the goal.

After a foul on Lancaster Bible with under 10 minutes to play, Waynesburg set up a play on the left side of the field, outside of the box, and had players run from the right to the middle of the field. One of the players running was Emily Hill, who deflected a pass from Teagan Jenner up over the goalkeeper Mikula, and gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

Lancaster Bible never threatened again, and lost their opening game for the fifth straight season.
