Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Goals Galore on Homecoming

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team won its second straight game on Saturday, as the Chargers defeated Penn St. Berks, 6-2 on Homecoming at the Donald H. Funk Field. Lancaster Bible is now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions fell to 2-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible exploded out of the gate, as Rama Mugisha scored 3:59 into the contest off a beautiful crossing pass from Chad Tolson. Tolson drove down the right side of the field and crossed it quickly to Mugisha who headed the ball into the upper right-hand corner of the net.

Just 7:30 later, Tolson crossed another pass across the box, and this time found Kedric Yoder who beautifully touched the ball off his foot and past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the Chargers. The two-goal lead didn't last long however, as Ayden Lee collected a loose ball off a corner kick, and chipped into the back of the net to cut the Nittany Lions' deficit to one.

The teams exchanged possession for the next 15 minutes, before Lancaster Bible earned a free kick from 23 yards out after a Penn St. Berks foul. Senior Joel Hughes stepped over the free kick, and drilled it into the back right-side of the net, and restored Lancaster Bible's two-goal advantage.

The Chargers held the lead through halftime, but Penn St. Berks took advantage of an early scoring chance in the second half, as Luke Romanoski took a great pass from Nate Nguyen, and scored past Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Jake Deterline, to again cut into the Chargers' lead.

Lancaster Bible began to control play again after the Nittany Lion goal and earned three shots and a corner kick, but couldn't convert. At 60:21 however, Michael Eufemia slipped into the box, and took a pass from Yoder and scored along the ground for his second goal of the year.

Just five minutes later, Eufemia scored again, as he crossed the ball into the box and the ball went off a defender, and into the back of the net for a 5-2 Lancaster Bible lead. Lancaster Bible freshman Clark Shreiner capped the scoring at 69:20, as he took a feed from Trey Baughman and scored into an open net.

Statistically Speaking: Lancaster Bible outshot the Nittany Lions, 19-14, including 13-5 in shots on goal…The Chargers also led in corner kicks, 4-2…Nittany Lion goalkeeper Carter Lam and Jose Aparicio combined to make seven saves, while Deterline and CJ DeMarsico made three combined saves…Tolson finished with two assists, while Yoder had a goal and an assist.

The Coach Says: "Our finishing today was very good at times," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "Credit to our guys for good runs into the box, and good services. We can improve in the build-up and defensively in several areas. We'll work to get better on that during Monday's practice."
