Penn St. Berks Roars Past Lancaster Bible

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team lost to Penn St. Berks, 4-1 on Saturday at the Donald H. Funk Field, as the Chargers celebrated Homecoming. The loss drops the Chargers to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Penn St. Berks controlled the game from the opening whistle, and put pressure on the Chargers immediately. Lancaster Bible withstood the onslaught for several minutes, as goalkeeper Rheeana Miles made two saves.

Penn St. Berks finally got on the board at 18:56, as Alexis Schoener scored her seventh goal of the season off a feed from JoJo Zolli. The Nittany Lions continued to pressure the Chargers, but less than 10 minutes later, Lancaster Bible earned a free kick from 25 yards out after a Penn St. Berks foul. Sam Koons took the free kick, and rung it off the crossbar, and waiting for the rebound was Bryanna Stutzman who put it home for her first goal of the season.

The tie game lasted less than two minutes however, as Zolli worked down the field and took a shot that was saved by Miles, but went right back to the foot of Zolli who scored to give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead. Ten minutes later, Penn St. Berks scored again, as Sara Hathaway took a crossing pass from Lauren Korpics, and netted her fourth goal of the year, that gave the Nittany Lions a 3-1 lead that they would keep through halftime.

Penn St. Berks picked up right where they left off, as Zolli and Schoener combined for a pass and shoot combination after a Chargers turnover, and Zolli netted her second goal of the afternoon to make it 4-1.

The Nittany Lions held almost all of the possession through the middle of the second half, though the Lancaster Bible defense held strong and limited the scoring chances for the visitors.
