Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Win on the Road

It took until January 22, but the Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team finally earned a road victory this season, as the Chargers picked up a huge North Eastern Athletic Conference win over Gallaudet, 72-63, in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night. The win is the fourth in five games for the Chargers who are now 6-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Bison dropped to 2-13 overall and 2-4 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Gallaudet led early in the contest, but a basket from Adam Stoltzfus followed by a 3-pointer from Brion Elliott gave the Chargers an 8-7 lead, and Lancaster Bible extended it to 11-7 on a three-point play from Tyler Norris with 13:27 to play in the opening half. Back-to-back layups from William Afoakwah gave the Chargers a 15-7 lead two minutes later, but the Bison battled back to knot the contest at 19-19 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half.

Lancaster Bible fought right back, and embarked on a 12-1 run over the next 2:43, as Norris jumpstarted the run with another three-point play. Norris followed it up with a 3-pointer, and Brett Bechler and Jordan Shewbridge knocked down 3-pointers as well, as the Chargers took a 31-20 lead with 4:24 to play in the half. Another Shewbridge triple gave the Chargers a 15-point lead two minutes later, and the visitors eventually led 40-27 at the break.

The Chargers led by double digits for much of the second half, but always dangerous on their home floor, the Bison battled back late, trimming their deficit to seven on two occasions, the final time coming with 4:54 to play. Another layup from Afoakwah followed by a jumper from Norris put the lead back to 11, and the Chargers maintained a healthy lead the rest of the way.
